“Nice place, beautiful views but very overpriced restaurant.”
Reviewed 1 June 2014

We stayed at El Cabito for two nights. The hotel is in a peaceful location – about 3-4 kms out of Las Galeras which means you either need to pay around 100pesos each way for a motoconcho or walk for around 30 – 40 mins. The cabins are basic but fine as long as you do not mind sleeping under a mosquito net and the views are lovely. My main criticism of the hotel is the restaurant which is very overpriced and feels as though they are capitalising on being located further away from any local competition. There are absolutely no shops or restaurants nearby so either you need to go to town to buy your supplies and eat out or eat and drink in the hotel. If you choose to eat at El Cabito, while the views are amazing, you can expect to pay at least 200 pesos more per dish than you would pay in the majority of places in Las Galeras town for exactly the same food. The restaurant also charges significantly more for smaller bottles of beer and water than you would find in the town (150 pesos for a small bottle of beer when a large one should only cost between 100-125). Originally we had planned to spend 4 nights in El Cabito but we decided to move into Las Galeras and cut our costs on food and drinks. It was quite disappointing and I would not stay there again for that reason unfortunately the location does not quite make up for the elevated prices of eating and drinking in the hotel.

El Cabito gets the very good rating mostly because of its incredible setting atop a cliff. It is definitely off the beaten path, although their website has excellent directions to find it. While the website describes how to get there using public transportation, I can't imagine going without a private car. It's a long way down rough roads, farther than I would choose to walk (probably 45 minutes walking).

They have 2 cabanas, a "treehouse," hammocks, and a camping area. We stayed in the treehouse for $30/night. The treehouse has a mattress/pad in it big enough for 2 people. It does have electricity, which was a nice surprise, but it would have benefitted hugely from a fan. Even with the flaps open, there was almost no breeze. It was so hot we had a hard time sleeping. Bugs weren't too bad. There is mosquito netting, although it has a lot of holes. The bathhouse was pretty nice. No hot water, but I wasn't expecting any.

We had the 150 peso breakfast, which was coffee and toast with butter and honey. I felt that this left something to be desired. That 150 pesos would have gone a lot farther for breakfast in town. There is also a 250 peso option with more food. Great view from the restaurant. I highly recommend getting a mojito and watching the sunset. They advertise cliff jumping, although it was not available when we were there because the ladder was twisted. But when it's available, this is a very cool amenity for the daredevil. It's a BIG jump and entails a bit of rock climbing to get out.

Room Tip: The treehouse was very hot all night.

I think these three adjectives are the most convenient to describe this place. In the middle of nothing, you can find this little space full of calm, and enjoy the amazing views of the caribbean with the best mojito and relax music. You can go with your friends, your couple or alone, because it is sure you will find someone to talk like Rosa, one of the owners, a very friendly and nice person.
If you like and want a really contact with the nature, absolutely you have to try sleep for a few nights in their cabins, where you can go to sleep and wake up every day with the sound of the sea and nocturn animals, really nice!
The road to go is not so good, like in all the paradises, maybe to preserve it better!, but like the most roads of D.R. then, is recommendable if you rent a 4x4 car to move for the island!

Stopped by for drinks and to check out the view by taxi. The beer was cold, Mojito was yummy and the view was amazing.
You must try and visit to see this cool structure.
We were staying at the Grand Paradise. You would not want to walk there. Driving was bad enough, as you go up a steep unmaintained hill.
Cheers!

El Cabito is a wonderful place, and the view from the small balcony of the cabana is spectacular. Overlooking the bay and a sky full of stars at night...just nature, nothing which disturbs the piece. The sad thing is that the cabana was not particularly clean - there was still waste from other people in the room. The "shower" had no showerhead and no hook to hang it on the wall. The mosquito net on the window was waving back and forth in the breeze as nobody took the effort to fix it again. The basket for toilet paper was not emptied during our stay. We got the sad feeling that there was nobody there to care for what could have been a gorgeous place. Price: USD 50.-

I will keep it short and sweet. Amazing food, great hosts, a view like no other. You have to jump off the cliff and stay the night. Hammocks, treehouse, cabins.

If don't venture to stay overnight, call ahead and book a lovely sunset dinner.

You will only regret not going, going will change your perspective of the northern DR coast.
