Our stay at Chalet Tropical was so much more amazing than we ever could have expected. Sarah, Darling, and the rest of the staff were warm, friendly, and incredibly helpful. The chalets are beautiful and very obviously built with love. Breakfast was delicious and Sarah was indispensable in making sure we had a lovely stay - she stopped by every morning to help us plan any day trips we wanted to take, and made sure we were always in good hands. The grounds were gorgeous and lovingly cared for. And most importantly, being there felt like being with family. We stayed in two separate chalets and both exceeded our expectations. When we go back to the DR, we won't waste time staying anywhere else. We are grateful for the experience Sarah gave us.

Wonderful beyond words.
If you like big hotels and sterile surroundings, this is not your place. It's a little place down a dirt path from the village (maybe a 15 minute walk) so do bring solid walking shoes and a flashlight.
Sarah is warm and kind and fun - she takes care of everyone. The chalets are perfect, rustic, beautiful- there is coffee and a big water tank provided. The beaches are wonderful --- though some tourists do stupid things like try to move coral to get a better look at the fish. Las Galeras has a few restaurants, a couple nightclubs, - nothing too flashy, just a lovely small town, which is what is so wonderful about this area. Evenings are lovely - so calm, nice to sit out on the terrace, look at the clear night sky, listen to the sounds.
We'll be back, of course.

We have arrived pretty late and Sara..the owner was ready for us..
Chalets are sooo beautiful and comfortable, clean and so on. Sara is very friendly women and all staff as well.
Take a breakfast for sure!!!! it was delicious and the serving is quite original.
As Sara is an Italian origin so she would make sure you are drinking a good coffee..believe me after several months living in the Caribbean I appreciated that a lot.
Playa Rincon is reachable from that place and is well worthy to go.
Absolutely felt comfortable over there..thanks Sara!

Room Tip: all nice:) and beds are huge!!!

I'll admit it, when I first saw all of the amazingly positive reviews on TA of this property, I was more than a little skeptical. It turns out, they were right and then some. The location is perfect for getting to the beach or to town, and Sarah will arrange for any possible adventure you might want, from zip lines to whale watching. Sarah and her staff were amazingly kind and helpful, and the work she did to put together our 10-year vow renewal ceremony on the beach exceeded all possible expectations.

Oh, and for Goodness' sake, try the breakfasts! We worked our way through the entire menu and we were always impressed. Trust me, you will NOT regret it….

Room Tip: They are ALL great, but every one is different. Make sure to get a good look at the pictures on their website so that you can find the space that is best for you. And book EARLY!

If you are looking for relaxation and adventure this is a great place to visit. If you are looking for something different than an all inclusive Chalet Tropical and Las Galeras is the place you should visit! You do not need to pack much, but refillable water bottles,a backpack, good walking sandals, and flashlights for walking home at night all came in handy. Learn some spanish if you can too! We knew none! We visited for one week and were sorry to leave! No need to have it all planned out ahead of time, Sarah and Darling will help you with your adventures when you are there. We did not rent a car, instead we took Sarah's advice and explored on foot, by ATV, with a jungle guide (awesome young man), three person motorcycle taxi. Horses and boats are also available. To relax we enjoyed breakfast outside on our porch, our chalet, the beautiful Playita, and walks through town. For adventure we found a trail and hiked to Playa Colorado, probably the most beautiful beach I have ever seen. Another day Sarah arranged a moto taxi, three of us on one little motorcycle (you have to experience this) which drove us to Boca del Diablo (mouth of the devil). From here we hiked with our guide Malfie, awesome young man, through the jungle with frequent natural snacks found along the way...cocunut, almonds, papaya yum! We finally reached Playa Fronton, beach only reached by foot or boat. Good for snorkeling but watch out for the sea urchins prickly black creatures they hurt. Continued our hike to playa Madama, caves and beach, beautiful! We spent the whole day with Malfie who speaks no english and we only speak english and yet somehow we learned so much about the area, the resources and the people. Good to be out of your comfort zone and enjoying the present adventure and local people. Then walked back to Chalet Tropical, slept well that night, even the roosters didn't wake us! Another adventure was renting an ATV for 24 hours (Sarah did this for us) and finding our way to Playa Rincon, if you do this find the little lady selling the coconut bread on the beach near the fresh water river, yummy! And the best ever pinacolada in a pinapple served with a spoon and a straw, eat the whole thing! Next time we will stop along the way at the road side food markets. That evening we drove our ATV to El Cabito for dinner, definately a highlight for us. Get there with lots of daylight to enjoy whales, and all the views and then the sun set! Oh ya food and Mojitos are good too!
This vacation was a great get away, to see a way of life so different from our own, in warm tropical temperatures, with people who kinda feel like family! Thanks Sarah and Darling and all the rest of the staff and the people of Las Galeras!
