“Nice View Good Location”
Reviewed 10 July 2013

We stayed at the Ship Inn for an overnight stay after visiting the Dunnotar Castle.

Pros:
Location - Walking (about half an hour) Distance to Dunnotar Castle,
View - Right in front of the old harbour. There is also a little trial along the coast in front of the hotel to walk to a beach. Very nice as well
Helpful Staff - Check in takes literally 2mins/the same applies to check out
Good Sottish Breakfast
Lots of free parking outside

Cons:
Old - as the name says, the interior is a bit old and run down, though we are already staying in the newer acquired part of the hotel.
Mattress - A little old... could be more comfortable
View also - why? we got a room facing the roof top of the next building. Not so pleasant and a little disappointed after walking in the front door expecting a good view.

Overall, the room is very well equipped and I think it is a sufficient for an overnight stay!

We stayed a delightful night in a pretty room overlooking the harbour .The rooms are very small, but cosy. The view out of the window was amazing, even though it was freezing outside. The staff in the restaurant were especially friendly .Make sure you book for dinner as the restaurant seems to be always booked out,as it has great food. A very good breakfast capped off a lovely stay.Wish my bed was softer, because us oldies have trouble with very firm beds.

Room Tip: Must have a Harbour view

Built in the 1700s this is a small inn right on the harbour, about 25 foot from the sea. Room was a bit small but with a 4 poster and a sea view. All was clean and the food in the restaurant was very good. Friendly staff and a nice pub area with seating out front as well.

We enjoyed our stay here. Breakfast was wonderful and the overall hospitality was great. Our only complaint is the WiFi didn't work very well in room 5. The bathroom is rather small, but it definitely served its purpose and we were very pleased. We didn't have the opportunity to eat dinner here as the place was packed. Proximity to Dunnottar Castle is perfect!

I stumbled upon the Ship Inn by chance, looking for a place to stay with some character on the east coast. The Ship Inn faces the old fishing port, with wonderful views out to sea. The staff were really friendly and helpful. The room was very well appointed, looked like it had been refurbished recently to a high standard. We ate in the restaurant; the haddock mornay was tremendous.

We slept like babies in our spotlessly clean room. The bathtub was huge--great for soaking. Breakfast was delicious, especially the fried bread and black pudding, and set us up nicely for our hike to the best castle in the whole wide world, Dunottar Castle.

Watch the tide go in and out from your bedroom window, see the Sea Cadets tackle the rough seas every evening, enjoy a meal or a drink with locals and visitors alike, admire the cliffs and local Dunnottar Castle and the peace and quiet of a wee Scottish seaside village... What could be more perfect?
Forget the pace of Aberdeen - we'd choose the Ship Inn every time.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view
