“Very clean, convenient location, excellent food.”
Reviewed 9 May 2014

The bed was a little hard and the space small, but the place was sparkling clean and the food was fantastic. The staff doted on us in the middle of a busy, sunny day at the harbor. We would stay there again if we were in the area.

Arrived late at night and set off before 8am, so I didn't have much time to experience all the delights of the bar or restaurant, but the welcome was warm, the room was spotless, the bed was comfy, the shower was hot and the breakfast was freshly-cooked and tasty (haddock and poached eggs- yum). The wi-fi didn't work, but I'm sure that if I'd brought it to the staff's attention it would have been fixed: I just couldn't be bothered seeing as I was on the verge of sleep anyway. Lovely harbour view from the restaurant in the morning.

Relaxed Atmosphere, nice place to stop. The town pubs are very friendly and food is good. A weekend is probably not long enough to view Scotland but The Ship is an excellent place to stay to be able to visit all area's of Scotland easily.

We stayed at the Ship Inn for 4 nights and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Our room was spotless with a beautiful harbour view and a large comfy bed and bathroom en suite. We ate in the dining room 3 nights running and the fish was particularly good - it's not often you get such crispy batter! The staff were very helpful and polite and the wine list was good as was the huge choice of whisky alphabetically arranged on the bar shelf. We wouldn't hesitate to stay at the Ship Inn again and would highly recommend it to others.

I enjoyed my visit, though unfortunately, there were some issues :

There is effectively, no sound-proofing between the rooms (in the newer block), so you'll hear everything that guests in neighbouring rooms are doing. The floors also creak, so when guests in neighbouring rooms awaken and move about (as they did at 6.30am on Sunday morning), you will be woken too. Frankly, this is not good enough in a modern facility. That apart, the room was adequate - functional and clean.

As regards dining (breakfast) the facilities were adequate and no more. The orange juice served at breakfast was simply insipid. This is a shame, as I'd visited here once previously and regrettably, the service is clearly not what it once was. I cannot in all conscience, offer a firm recommendation to others.

Booked a room with a sea view for one night and it was perfect. Large wardrobe with sufficient hangers, small bathroom with a double shower cubicle, shower toiletries and was spotlessly clean. Bed was big and comfy and we slept really well. Plenty of choice at breakfast and my poached egg was cooked to perfection. We ate our evening meal in their restaurant, the food was fantastic (I had the sea bass, hubby had mixed grill). Would definitely stay again if in the area.
