Rude and unwelcoming. I was completely baffled by the treatment we received from the host and hostess. It was absolutely bizarre and quite upsetting. My friend, a leading lawyer, needed accommodation in Stonehaven after a tough day in court. The first odd thing I witnessed was that the host came charging out of the B and B and grabbed her car keys from her and jumped into her brand new BMW without her permission and decided to re-park it. He made a mess of this and ordered her back into the car while he barked orders at her about parking it. After taking all her bags up to the room we came downstairs to see if there was a lounge area and so my friend could pay as she would be leaving early. The stairs were such that we found ourselves outside before we knew it and turned around to see where the lounge or reception area was. We were locked out and looked through the window into a lounge for signs of the host. A woman (the hostess) came up to the window and instead of helping us, barked "do you mind - this is a private sitting room" and slammed the window. We rang the bell and the host, who we thought had come to apologise, proceeded to tell us off again. My friend said she wanted to pay and on opening her purse he curtly told her he didn't take cards, and when she thought he meant just some cards (like the maestro she had) and asked if he at least took MasterCard, his response was "do you want to stay or don't you?". We could have easily walked to the cashpoint but before we could say that's what we would do, he launched into an angry tirade saying: "look! We've tried to accommodate you!"
Despite everywhere else in Stonehaven being booked, my friend decided she would rather sleep on my tiny sofa than spend another minute there. Ridiculously, had they been even remotely pleasant, she would have booked in for the week. They could have mentioned that they didn't take cards before we took all the bags up to the top of the building. I live in Stonehaven and I WILL NOT be recommending this place to anyone. I suspect it has a poor reputation because it was the only place in town with any rooms left. The room itself was lovely. The service and welcome was diabolical.

My husband and I spent a night at Twentyfour Shorehead during a driving trip up the east coast. The setting is charming, at one end of the old harbor in Stonehaven. All the rooms have beautiful views and are thoughtfully and tastefully decorated. Being a very old building, the rooms are accessed by a set of steep and rather uneven stairs. This could be a problem for some people, but was part of the charm for us.

We enjoyed a very nice breakfast the next morning before continuing on our way. If you get a chance to stay at Twentyfour Shorehead, do it. It was a real treat!

We stayed for two nights in our this years holiday.
The B&B is located in the stunning scenery of stonehaven harbour.
Our double room on the top floor was very nice, not too big, but everything we needed was there.
The room and also the ensuite bathroom was very clean. The most fascinating element of the room was the view out to the whole harbour. The breakfast in the morning was freshly made by Anne and very delicious. for us the service was perfect. Anne did everything to make it joyable for us. She even helped us by e-mail and phone calls where we would get our desired honey.
So we could only recommend a stay at this B&B.

The area around has some good spots for birdwatchers. The Bullers of Buchan and the Fowlsheugh are great cliffs with many seabirds - and also Puffins.

Room Tip: All the rooms have excellent views out to the harbour

We found this place by chance but it is an excellent place to stop off at, a beautiful little gem on the coast. A warm and friendly welcome from our hosts, excellent accommodation, a very good breakfast and very good value for money. Our room looked straight over the small harbour, lovely and peaceful after a long journey. Our second visit here and we will certainly be back again. The Ship Inn close by serves good meals. If you have the time then a short walk along the coast path to Dunnottar castle is well worth a visit, stunning views and plenty of birds on the cliffs.

What a great place to stay! Right on the harbour with terrific views from the bedroom windows. A designer boutique B and B with everything you might need. A welcoming hostess who cooked and served an excellent breakfast. Definitely the place to stay.
