This was a nice place to stay in a quiet country setting. The guest lounge was large with a comfy sofa and good views of the pretty garden and the surrounding fields. Breakfast was tasty and healthy, with homemade granola, yogurt, and fruit (a cooked breakfast is also available). One of the beds in the twin room was lumpy due to the springs being too close to the surface and it was rather hard. The other bed in the room wasn't lumpy but was also very firm. There was no top sheet on the beds, just a duvet (comforter), which offered choices of being too hot with the duvet, as the duvet was very thick (and probably great in the winter) or a bit cold without the duvet. The internet signal was good in the lounge area but weaker and faded out sometimes in the room. Shower pressure was ok and no shampoo was provided. The twin room was small with no place to sit in the room itself but the shared lounge had plenty of space.

Room Tip: One of the beds in the twin room was really quite uncomfortable and the other was firm. Maybe other...

Came across this by chance when searching for affordable accommodation in Aberdeen. I stayed for 5 nights and this place is easily up with the 5 star accommodation in the Centre, although at a fraction of the price. Christine goes out of her way to make your stay as comfortable as possible and cooks a fantastic breakfast every morning. If you struggling for somewhere to stay in the centre, then this beautiful place is 10 miles out in a superb setting.

Spent a week with Christine and Ron while visiting family in the area.
What lovely people they are!
Beautiful rural setting - quite and relaxing, absolutely first class accommodation.
Christine's healthy breakfasts are great. Ron is so helpful with travel hints.
Next time I am in Scotland this will be my first choice as a place to stay.

We arrived at Schonwald much later than we had expected to, after a very long day and drive from Inverness. We called ahead to let Christine and Ron know we were still coming, and finally arrived about 8pm. (We had emailed from home to get good directions from them on how to find Schonwald, since there was not a precise street address that we could key into our Garmin. Christine had provided specific instructions on where to turn--"cross the narrow bridge, look for the bus shelter..."--and they were perfect. We had no trouble!) We were greeted by Ron right out at the workshop down the drive, and he welcomed us right there! After seeing our room, we asked for a dinner suggestion, and they sent us right over to the Lairhillock Inn, just a few minutes away. Dinner was great, and we didn't even unload our luggage till we got back to Schonwald close to 10pm. What a long day! The room was clean and comfortable, and the bathroom bright and up-to-date. We had a great night. Breakfast in the morning was wonderful, with Christine and Ron working together in the kitchen to get us fed at 7:30 so we could get to Dunnottar close to opening time. We enjoyed chatting with them--this was definitely a place that made us feel comfortable and welcome. I would not hesitate to stay here again, and recommend it heartily to others.

Christine and Ron are the perfect couple to run a B&B. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left they were attentive, helpful and welcoming. Christine is a cook par excellence and it is reflected in the detail and freshness of her cooking. The "healthy" breakfast option was our favourite but of course we had to try the "Full Scottish". The healthy one was a filling delight of flavour and texture and so well presented.
For someone to run a business but not only enjoy it but also be so friendly and attentive to their guests all the time is hard work but they really do enjoy it. The location and facilities are second to none and the whole place is a premium option at standard prices. The return bookings will prove that. We can't say enough to recommend the Schonwald to anyone wanting to visit Aberdeenshire.
I titled this review Home from Home but it is not just that, if you want to be pampered just book a room.

Room Tip: No need to choose. If you are lucky enough to get a room here you will be rewarded by an excellent s...

Found this place because the rest of Aberdeen is so expensive and Stonehaven is too busy. This place is great. Very welcoming hosts. Will do everything they can for you. Lovely breakfast with home made granola I would recommend. Very friendly. Slightly out of the way but that's what I like. Fields round you make things so quiet. There is also a nice country road to Aberdeen instead of the usual motorway. This is now my first choice when going to the area.

Room Tip: Room 1 is best as it looks over the fields.

I was unable to get a hotel in Aberdeen where I had early morning meetings so looked a little further afield and found this wonderful B&B. Unlike others I tried I was charged the full rate for single occupancy of a double room so didn't feel ripped off - the tariff represented excellent value for money. The room I was offered had character was spotlessly clean, excellent shower and good quality TV. The breakfast was freshly cooked and was delicious, and kept me well fed for most of the day. Christine was very welcoming – the perfect host.
