I couldn't believe my wife wanted to go there but it was truly outstanding. Spectacular setting and views and all the wind and rain we needed to bring the fascinating history of the place to life. Don't miss this one!

Beautiful!! What a view and what an awesome ruines. We visited 6 castles during our stay, but Dunnottar was one of our favorites. Even though it's a ruine, there is still lots to see and it leaves enough for your own imagination!

This is a great spot to visit. The view is amazing and they've maintained the history of the castle by not doing many renovations on it. There were a few sections blocked off for renos but it really was a nice few hours spent. It is a good hike up and down the hill to the castle, but it is worth the walk. There are plenty of castles to visit that are still lived in and well visited with furniture and artifacts. This place was nice because there wasn't much of a crowd like some of the higher profile stops which made for a more meaningful visit.

This is the most amazing sight in Scotland, in my opinion. We added it to our list of sights on our way to St. Andrews and it really made our day. The view of the cliff, lush green grasses and the ruins are absolutely breathtaking.

Don't miss this one. You'll never regret making the stop. If you choose to walk to the castle itself be aware that there a number of stairs to consider if you are able - but the view from the top and other side of the cliffs is easily as memorable if that's all you do.

Very interesting castle ruins located on a hill-island that is isolated off the shore. The walk to the castle helps build up suspense, and later, every peek out or into the ruins reveals amazing sights of hills, ocean, beaches or other parts of the castle.

Could be a bit more curated, and perhaps can annoy the average tourist for the lack of comfort infra-structure. But the price is worth is, as well as the hike. Also, the lack of a gift-shop/canteen helps preserve the authentic feel of the ruins.
