What a lovely day out for the family. It took us roughly an hour and a half to drive to the castle from our holiday home, but it was well worth it. The directions were clear and on-site parking was well manged. Even better the sun was out ... fabulous!

My eldest son is a keen photographer and my younger son is a VERY keen outdoors boy. This attraction did not disappoint. I would say here that all of our legs certainly felt it ... so be prepared to walk, walk, walk.

Top tip - make sure you are wearing sturdy shoes and grab a little bottle of water to sip as you walk.

After walking to the beach, around the castle and tackling the climb back to the car park, we were very ready for a cuppa from the fast food van. Brilliant positioning ... and very popular.

I would highly recommend this for a family day out.

This is a must see attraction in Scotland. Outlook is fabulous. I would say this was perhaps the highlight of my trip, castle/attraction wise.

Urqhuart Castle on Loch Ness is Dunnottar's dunny.

We came here with our two children (8 and 2 years) it is not pram friendly as you have to park at he side of a country road and walk to the castle which is including alot of steps. Luckily my 2 year old walked alot and my husband managed to carry him when he got tired. You can walk around the cliff to get the views of the castle and there is a little rocky beach with is great for kids to play at. The walk to the castle took us about 15 minutes. For a family ticket it was £17 and well worth the price as when you get in you are blessed with the most beautiful views. The ground are very clean and well maintained and easy to walk around once in there. (note you can pay by card at the little kiosk) There are toilets on site but no food or drink facilities until you get back to the road. Some steps are steep and very thin as they are so old and can get very slippy when it rains. The views of the sea are incredible and I will never forget how stunning this location is. We was also lucky enough to spot some puffins on the rocks. There is plenty of information boards around to keep you informed with the castle and grounds. They are very interesting and you can feel how the place would have been when it was lived in. We will be back again for a full day visit!

Visited on a lovely day. Got in early before everyone arrived and found it easy to get around. Full of interesting stories and highly recommend this as a place to see when in Scotland.
If elderly or injured be aware there are a lot of stairs that are narrow and the climb back up could be a challenge for some.

A beautiful castle, dramatically located on the cliffs above the North Sea. Wonderful walk out from Stonehaven village along the cliff tops.
