WOW. Views from this castle are amazing. Wanted to visit here ever since seeing the wallpaper on win 7. Its quite a few steps to get down and a few to get to the castle but its worth it. The Scottish crown jewels were hidden here from Cromwell. Lots of history info inside the castle.

Dunnottar is a beautiful castle with stunning views! Set high on on a cliff, there is a small hike to get to it. It is in ruin but so worth stopping to see. Make sure to visit the restored drawing room. It is beautiful! The views are amazing!

Intereting place to visit, I think this is about the view from the castle, the panorama, it is really worth the effort! The ruins also give you an idea about how life looked like at the time, good to have a walk inside.

We did the cliff-top walk from Stonehaven Harbour which took about an hour. The first part of the walk going up behind houses is quite steep and a bit rough and we decided to take the road on the way back as we weren't too confident about doing it downhill. Once past that though, the walk was completely straightforward and gave some great views even though the weather wasn't too good. Dunnottar is well worth the walk to look at from the cliffs even if you decide not to visit the castle itself - the access is quite steep. There is a sign by the snack van that implies the toilets are at the castle and for paying visitors only but when we were there there were some portable ones in the carpark that were perfectly fine.If you are time-watching then walking back along the road by the car park is much quicker than the cliff path - not as scenic but there are views across the farmland and the road is quiet. It meets up with the cliff-top walk just at the top of the climb behind the houses.

Ever since I went to Dunottar 25 years ago have wanted to take my kids. And managed it for my 18 year old daughter, who loved the place. Magical, mystical, interesting, atmospheric were some of the adjectives. And it lost nothing for me. Glad I went back
