An outstanding example of years gone by. The pool is brilliant, but at times it gets a little dirty with sand, flies and hair. The changing rooms need some serious TLC. There is an onsite cafe which seems to do a great trade. The aqua disco is brilliant and well worth a try. I look forward to it opening in the summer.

Good value for money we went on a Saturday afternoon. Plenty of life guards which was good and lots of extras for kids to play on. Liked how they still have original old fashioned showers/ changing rooms. The cafe also very good with good selection to food and drinks. I had a cappuccino as it got a wee bit breezy. Heard a few kids complaining about the salty water but I believe the water gets filtered from the sea. Kids loved it

Glad you enjoyed it Delzer65. You're right, it is sea water, filtered to remove sand and impurities (but not salt!) before treatment to make it completely clean and safe. Then it's heated to a Mediterranean-like temperature of 29°C (usually warmer than the Med as well as cleaner!) But the pool is now closed (as of 2 September) until the end of May 2019. Hope to see you back next year!

One of the few remaining lidos. Run by a community group. Real sense of history. And it is heated too!

Glad you enjoyed it. However, the pool is owned, staffed and operated by Aberdeenshire Council. The community group, the Friends of the Pool enhances, maintains and promotes the pool. However, that's it closed now until the end of May 2019. Hope to see you back then.

Went to this fabulous place that is a credit to the people who run and look after it as we were right next door on the caravan site for a few days.
It was my sons first time in an open air, sea water pool and we loved it especially as it was heated.
got to go and experience it as there are not many left.

We visited with my 10 month old son. The facilities were great including 2 play pens which really helped when getting ready at the end. The place is well maintained. The changing rooms were cleaned constantly when i visited. Water was nice and warm despite being a cooler day. Would definitely return and recommend to friends!

This is a good place to swim in seawater as the water is kept lovely and warm. Even on a cool day, being in this water is good, and being a large pool, there is plenty of room for all styles of swimmer.
The only slight downside is that the changing facilities are a bit old fashioned, and cool, to say the least!

We're glad you enjoyed your swim and are sorry you found the changing rooms cool and old fashioned. There are heaters for use on cooler days and we would hope that, were these not in use, customers would ask staff to switch them on.

The pool itself isnt too bad, some bugs and grime but that is to be expected. They need to add some kind of notice with pool etiquette clearly visible. Its not on at all that families, large groups or kids decide to congregate in the middle of the pool and just stand there bobbing up and down or doing nothing. Either swim or get out the way!! Its difficult to do any actual swmming because of these people, no need to just hover around the middle of the pool. Plenty of staff around so would be easy to tell them to respect those who actually want to swim!

The gents changing area is really filthy though, the showers were also freezing cold. Over all the hygiene and cleanliness is below what is classed as acceptable.

We're really disappointed you did not enjoy your visit to the Pool, JohnnerSheep. We would be interested to know what date and time you visited so we can follow up with staff with regard to your comments about the gents changing area. You can easily email us from our website www.stonehavenopenairpool.co.uk We would also ask that any issues such as these are reported to the Duty Officer at the time, so that (s)he can take appropriate action. As can be seen from other reviews, the pool and changing areas are generally kept very clean.

With regard to your comment about the families and groups being 'in the way' and not swimming, we would point out that this is a leisure pool for everyone to have fun. Lane swimming is available at specific times to allow those who want to swim lengths to do so without interruption.

Stonehaven is a really great place to visit and if you are in the area a visit to the outdoor pool is a must. Water can be a bit "fresh" even though it's heated. the slide is great fun for kids and adults alike. It's a great day out with the family, so get along and try it....

Thanks for your kind review Craig M. Sorry if the water was not as warm as usual. There have been issues with damage to the thermal covers towards the end of the season which means retaining that balmy temperature overnight is well nigh impossible.
