After a seemingly short and very interesting boat ride from Manaus on the Amazon, we arrived at the small island which is Lago Lodge. Before docking, Luis, the manager, invited us to throw out our lines, and we caught some fish for dinner. It wasn't long before we were sitting outside watching the incredible sunset and dolphins jumping through the water while we sipped cool gin and tonics. We just sat there, so relaxed from our hectic flight and busy night of fun in Manaus (go to the Holiday Inn bar in Manaus center. Great cocktails!). Then came dinner. Fish with all of the typical (and great) side dishes that I love about Brazilan cuisine. To bed early. The room was rustic, but very comfortable, and the temperature was ideal for sleeping.
I really can't say enough about the personal service we received from the time we arrived in Manaus till our return six days later. Plus the fishing in the area was fantastic. Also, wherever you go on the river, you can experience the culture on the Amazon. This place (as well as the area) was a real score for us.
