Efsti-Dalur II is run by an Icelandic family who do everything they can to make you feel welcome. We found them so warm and welcoming that being there was like being part of the family.
The evening meals they serve here are exceptional, using high quality ingredients and cooking things to near perfection. Breakfast is a buffet affair in a room on the ground floor with windows that look out into a cow shed - now that isn't as bad as it sounds, in fact its rather charming; watching the cows munch on hay.
The rooms are quite small and sparsely furnished but everything is neat and tidy and the beds are incredibly comfortable. The wooden structure, low lighting and underfloor heating really help to make the rooms feel lovely and cosy. There's also a hot tub near the accommodation which looks out over the beautiful Icelandic countryside and even the weathers down to far below freezing its still a lovely place to relax.
The one thing I found disappointing was the fact they had no log-fire, on freezing winter nights over Christmas that would have been perfect.
Our two nights were probably the best we had in our trip to Icelandic and though this hotel isn't cheap but its worth it for at least one night just to stay in the countryside and meet such a lovely family.More
