“Great little place”
Reviewed 10 June 2014 via mobile

Flying visit for a wedding. Staff on the phone were extremely friendly and helpful. I arrived very late indeed to another warm welcome from the night porter. Room wasn't spacious but had a lovely en suite and comfy bed. 2 mins from the railway station. Given the reasonable rates I thought this constituted excellent value although I can't judge the breakfast etc as I didn't have any.

The Railway is a friendly and clean establishment. It is slightly quirky, but only in a good way. Rooms comfortable and staff ready to help. Delicious breakfast.
Would recommend and is definitely value for money.

When you arrive at a venue and find semi derelict vehicles in the carpark there is a degree of concern as to what one is getting into. The reception is very small but the gentleman that looked after us was very pleasant and informative about the rules of the house. This includes locking up a 11pm. Our room was satisfactory but soft furnishings (cushions on the bed) and upholstery on chairs was stained. The room was clean but really cold as the heating had been switched off. We had to make do with a small oil filled electric heater. We went out to eat and returned after 11pm and had to ring the night porter to get in. He was not obviously best pleased to have been disturbed. All in all a place that needs a good face lift and some lessons in customer service.

Room Tip: choose a better hotel

Would recommend this hotel for good value accommodation. Our room was spacious and comfortable. Perfectly acceptable with a comfortable large bed and spare bed put up for our daughter. Everything we needed for a pleasant stay.

I stayed here for one night on business and was very impressed with the hotel and its staff. I had a single on-suite room at the rear of the hotel that was clean, comfortable and quiet. I ate in the hotel's bar and had a very good meal and an excellent pint of beer. I only had room for a continental breakfast the next morning, but the other guests said they enjoyed their full English breakfasts. I will happily stay here again when I'm next in the area.

We stayed for one night whilst visiting friends nearby. The hotel is situated on the main road into the town. Nice walk into the town centre and Marina. We ate in the restaurant in the evening. We had fish and chips and the fish was beautifully cooked, nice and crisp. Our breakfast was excellent, also served in the hotel dining room.Great choice of cereal and fruit. Full cooked breakfast also beautifully cooked and very tasty. They also offer kippers. Our room was at the front if the hotel and was quite noisy due to us having the windows open in the 85 degrees temp. A fan would have been a welcome addition but I suppose we could have asked. The price of this hotel is very reasonable, especially compared to similar hotels nearby.
