“So nice”
Reviewed 23 February 2014

LOTUS THRONE is a single vaulted chamber, dominated by its massive central Pillar that supported Akbar's throne. It was here that Akbar sat with his nine gems (ministers) and decided matters of the state and it was here that he declared his famous 'Deen-i-Elahi'.

This stone column support a flat topped dome which is 6 m high. It is an architectural wonder at Fatehpur Sikri. for its single pillar (Lotus Throne Pillar) with 36 voluted brackets which supports Akbar's throne.

This spot is where probably maximum photographs are taken. A must see sight while visiting Fatehpur Sikri, for which one can make a stop on Agra-Jaipur Highway.

“Most Impressive Pillar Ever”
Reviewed 25 April 2013

This 6 meter high pillar was carved from one piece of stone. Most impressive work. Please ask your guide to tell you about all the detail contained in this structure. At the top there is a place where the emperor would sit and address the ministers that sat on the sides. Fascinating!

“Reviewed this part of Fatehpur Sikri as I remembered it best”
Reviewed 2 February 2013

Fatehpur Sikri is an abandoned city about an hour's drive from Agra. One has to take an electric bus to the city after parking at the carpark.

I decided to put my review under the Lotus Throne as it was the first stucture I entered. The carvings and details on the walls of the multiple palaces were astounding.

The place reminded me of the Forbidden Kingdom in Beijing - a vast, open city for discovery.

“Beautiful detail”
Reviewed 15 January 2013

The Lotus throne is in the Diwan-i-Khas, which was thought to be a debating chamber. It is a magnificent sculptured pillar with intricate carvings. There are cross bars above and it is here that Emperor Akbar would sit.

Definitely worth a visit.
