Thanks to Hilary and Peter for helping organise this wonderful weekend away. The Coles organised accomodation, flights, and rental car hire so that I could pull off a wonderful surprise for my partners birthday.
The lodge is beautiful, the scenery and setting beautiful and the hospitality and warmth of the hosts notable.
We especially enjoyed the knees up with Peter and Hilary at the Irish Pub in Tryphena.
Can't wait to come back

When our flight to great barrier island was turned back due to the poor weather we thought we had lost the experience on the island we we hoping for. Quite the opposite was the case, we contacted them and they just pushed our stay back by a night and the next day we arrived at the awesome location that is Mt St Paul estate. The hosts couldn't have been more helpful, from coffee on the deck with spectacular views to suggestions of things to see on the island. After a day of walking in the bush and relaxing in the islands natural hot springs we were graced with a beautiful 3 course meal in front of an open fire, that was more than your average serving. The following mornings breakfast was again more than enough to get us through the day. The whole experience made our getaway well worth while and we will definitely be returning.

We shared a weekend away with friends and could not have asked for a more luxurious but home like accommodation. Our room was large and comfortable with views to die for from two large balconies. Cups of tea and coffee were cheerfully supplied by either Hilary or Peter whenever requested and the cooked breakfast was lovely. Nothing was too much trouble for our hosts, they made bookings for us and checked that the ferry was actually sailing after a night of rough weather. Ben the dog makes a great butler, greeting us as we arrived with great aplomb.
We thoroughly recommend this as a top NZ destination with accommodation to match.

My husband Mark & I enjoyed a fantastic weekend away with our friends John & Liz at this wonderful Estate. The views were superb and the setting was so peaceful. We loved our room with a balcony that had panoramic views across expansive native bush and the sea complete with sand dunes. Peter & Hillary were excellent hosts that made us feel at home in no time. Thanks for the warm and hearty home cooked meal and for being great dinner hosts - we enjoyed our conversations in a relaxed and comfortable environment. Lets not forget Ben the friendly larger than life family pet dog who also kept us entertained.

This place is a must visit for anyone wanting to relax in luxurious surroundings who just want to get away from all the hustle and bustle of City life.

Having lived in Auckland all my life and never ventured to Great Barrier Island seemed a little silly, so when the opportunity came up to have a weekend over there we jumped at it. It started with a phone call to Hillary asking about a possible weekend we could come and ended with her organising our flights and rental car too! From the moment we arrived Hillary and Peter were the ultimate hosts.
Our bedroom overlooked the amazing bay, we had an open fire (which appealed to Nic's "manly" side..) and one of the biggest most comfortable beds I've ever seen.
Hillary cooked up a beatutiful breakfast and offered to feed us in the evenings too.
I would recommend a weekend at Mount St. Paul Estate to any couple or group wanting to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Set in a bush clad hillside, Mount St Paul Estate has spectacular 180˚ views of the Hauraki Gulf. A five minute drive from Claris and the airport, this beautiful estate is an idyllic retreat. As hosts, Peter and Hilary are par excellence. They strive to ensure guests enjoy their stay and all needs are met. The accommodation is immaculately clean and comfortable, our bedroom was spacious and the bed, well suffice to say we both enjoyed the best night’s sleep we have had in a long time. Highly recommend +++

This must surely be one of the Hauraki Gulf's best kept secrets and long may it remain so. In an unspoiled setting with magnificent views of sea and mountains, this is an idyllic location, and conveniently close to the airport at Claris. Peter and Hilary are wonderful friendly hosts who happily arranged both the flights to/from Auckland and the hire care that is absolutely necessary to travel around the island. Our room was monstrous by any standards and immensely comfortable; the log fire burning in the room was a particularly welcome sight after a day walking in the rain through some of the many bush tracks that Great Barrier Island boasts. With so few outside dining opportunities on the island (especially off-season) Peter and Hilary's 'Come Dine With Us' offer is not be missed and they admirably coped with a short notice request to feed us. A memorable experience.
