A trip to Great Barrier Island in itself is a nature lover's treat, but step into this sanctuary for an unforgettable experience. Take the looped track self guided walk through paddocks and past duck ponds, which is steep but well worth the effort for spectacular views. The terrain changes rapidly as the descent back down the hill through the most spectacular rain forest we have seen. The abundance of bird life is extraordinary and the pristine environment is lovingly maintained by a dedicated team inside the predator proof fence.
Well worth a generous donation as it is free to visitors and well worth supporting.
Take water and strurdy shoes - the walk is about 1.5 -2 hrs depending on how many of the information boards in the arbor you stop to read!
We intend to stay in the cottage at FitzRoy House when we are next visiting as it also looks fabulous and look forward to supporting this extraordinary venture.
