A cheerful brakfast toom is generally the sign of a successful hotel, and here, usually reserved English guests greeted us with smiles and chat - clearly people who had had a good night's rest.
We were looking for a reasonably priced hotel after visiting Oxford, and laterooms.com gave us a good deal on this one at a day's notice.
Our room was in a recently built extension that forms a quadrangle around a huge ancient tree. It was a very large twin room with a soft but comfortable double bed and a big bathroom. Plenty of free floorspace and wide doorways suggest this was designed with wheelchair users in mind.
Breakfast had good choices, with different breads, sliced meats and cheeses available as well as yoghurts and cereals. Cooked English breakfast is available as an extra.
The Lambert Arms isn't an exciting place to stay - atmospherically it's a bit bland - but it does do the basics very well, and the staff are friendly and efficient. Overall, a very positive experience. Oxford is 15 miles away, where our usual hotel choice would have cost us more than twice as much that night.More
