We recently stayed at the Lodge on the Whangaparapara harbour. The accommodation was excellent, comfortable and homely. The meals were delicious and the company superb. Credit must go to the managers Erica and Archie who are amazing hosts, cooks, tour guides, bar staff and information givers...The staff at the lodge are all nice people, real friendly locals... Its a beautiful place and we will be going back there soon.

I would like to say a big thank you to our friendly hosts at the lodge. The accommodation was nice and clean and we had magnificent harbour views. Also compliments to the chef Erica for the delicious meals. A good central location to explore the island from.

I stayed at the lodge with a friend for a weekend. Our plan was to go fishing and diving as much as possible. This place is perfect if you are a keen fisherman/diver. You can catch fish for dinner 300m down the road at the wharf and the beaches of the island offer nice diving locations to catch crayfish.
The lodge is in a beautiful location, overlooking the bay including the old whaling station. Everybody was extremely friendly and the relaxed and happy barrier atmosphere made our stay perfect.
I will definitely come back.

Gidday Yanic,
It was a real pleasure to have yourself and Ryan stay with us, and also that you were able to enjoy all the fantastic things Great Barrier Island has to offer. Erica also continues to comment on your amazing crayfish meal you cooked up :)
All the best with your studies in Germany and we look forward to see you back in New Zealand.

Gidday Michael,
Thank you so much for staying with us, and thanks for your comments! We really look forward to seeing you over here on The Barrier again, and I'll pre organise some better sized snapper for us to catch off the Wharf here at Whangaparapara. Prost

A Beautiful place amidst a beautiful Island. Really friendly hosts and great food. Kayaks available and if like me you don't have your own transport , many tracks start from just up the road. Plus bike hire has moved to this location.
