“Too far out”
Reviewed 7 September 2012

The hotel itself was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was superb with lots of choice. No evening meals are available. They will phone for a pizza which cost 12 euros and was pathetic. There is a Trattoria down the road near the bus stop and the food is good 8 euros will buy a good portion of Pasta Bolognese To get into the centre of Rome you have to purchase a travel ticket. 8 euros buys you a 1 day ticket. the tickets are available at the coffee shop near the Trattoria. You can use the metro, buses and trams. There is a bus stop on the main road and this will take you to the metro station. I bought a travel map for 3 euros which tells you the bus numbers and where they go. It also has the metro map which is easily navigated. We had to find this out for ourselves.
The hotel has a free shuttle service to the airport.

We stayed in the new annex part of this hotel which was very nice but the hotel is in the middle of no where and we struggled to find a place to eat. The hotel will put a frozen pizza in the oven for you at a cost of 12 Euros per head but this did not sound very appealing. I would strongly recommend you take plenty of food with you if you stay here.
On the plus side, the hotel does offer a free shuttle to the airport!

Sited near graffiti strewn houses and a derelict bar this hotel is a(quote)" 50 euro round trip" from the airport. Add that to the room price!!
The female receptionist has little grasp of English and can give no advice about getting to the hotel, where to eat, why the advertised wifi was unavailable, etc. The male receptionist tried to charge me less than I owed( this may have been the fault of the barmaid who had no change- and less idea of how to be a barmaid)
Whilst the room was moderately large, this was because the walls were so thin that every movement from without was heard in graphic detail
On a positive note, the parrots in the nearby trees were entertaining

Dear Client,

Thank you for the preference and the comment you have expressed.
As you surely learnt before booking, we are located in a lovely green area few minutes from Ciampino airport (precisely 3 miles), from where you can book the arrival transfer by Excel Shuttle at a very competitive price as described in our website, if you want to avoid the taxis surcharges.

We are sorry that our Staff did not meet your expectations and we have already moved your opinion to them, in order to assure an improvement of this important portion of Hotel service. Thanks for the details you gave.

On the other hand, we are happy that you have liked the room and of course next time we will do our best to assign you our most quiet room.

We look forward to welcoming you again at Excel Roma Ciampino, best regards,

We stayed there overnight with our two young children after the end of our cruise waiting to catch a flight the next day. We stayed at the new detached part which I understand is better than the old building. Considering the available accommodation in Italy I would say that this hotel is a good stop for rest before you carry on with your voyage. It is located in a tranquil area outside Rome and offers all basic amenities to enable you recuperate. Sleep quality is good and breakfast provides all you need to start your day.

If you just want to stop after or before a flight, this hotel is in my opinion excellent value for money. The new detached part is far better than the old one in the main building. The staff is very friendly and helpful; wifi, parking and a good breakfast are included in the price; considering hotel prices in and near Rome, I find Excel Ciampino is a good option. The only major shortcoming is the absence of a bar/restaurant (there seems to be a bar but I've always seen it closed).

Room Tip: ask for a room in the new building

First of all, it's not as close to the airport as it says. Also at the prices you'll be paying the taxis you're better of staying in the centre of Rome.

The room was ok but the shower area a was lil too small. When I checked in I was pretty hungry and decided to go down to eat. And guess what? They don't have a restaurant! That's what the receptionist told me. So there is a 4* hotel in the middle of nowhere without a restaurant. This is sad. I don't think I'll be staying there again.

Room Tip: Don't!

We stayed here during a school tour of Italy while we were in Rome for five days. It was a fine hotel with great rooms and meals. Air conditioning was ok in some rooms - it is a value to Texans, of course (and it was sweltering hot in Rome while we were there). The hotel provided breakfast boxes to us on the last morning when we had to leave for the airport very early.
