The good things: pretty close to the main square, it has the best cafe in town, and it has a pretty nice local feel. They also allowed us to make an early check-in at 7am. A late check-out up to 7pm on our last day costed only 35% extra of a daily fee.

The bad: I had my doubts before arriving because booking our days needed more than 2 emails, and over 4 phone calls. We were so tired when we got there that the room seemed just perfect, but during the afternoon of day 1 we had no water because they were doing some work on the hotel plumbing. That was pretty bad considering altitude sickness makes you want to go to the bathroom more than usual. Water returned later than expected.

During night 2 we ran out of hot water, and by morning of day 3 that hadn't changed. I had to pick either freezing water or cold water. I tried to go past that and not let it ruin my morning, yet, the hotel staff was -again- not really sympathetic or apologetic in no way, just as it had happened the first day.

I realize that the inconveniences I had were not major, but you would expect more from one of the best hotels you can find in Chachapoyas, and it is a pity they are not welcoming or friendly as you would want them to in such a beautiful region with so much tourism potential.

This is THE hotel to say in if you are in Northern Peru. After a night bus trip the welcoming, old world charm was matched by the warm, friendly welcome to let us check in early, store bags after a day of hiking while we waited for the next overnight bus, including a most generous offer to shuttle us to the bus station since it was dark and 'cold' outside. Rooms were very cozy, the patio was delightful for card playing, the fireplace room was inviting and relaxing. The restaurant next door served a fine breakfast, and in the evening good wine on the patio. The green parrot in the neighboring tree reminded us that we were in Peru having a special adventure. This is a grand place to feel the history of the country and to launch from in order to explore. Absolutely the owner went above and beyond for us with gracious style.

This is a nice clean hotel. The beds are so comfy compared to anything normally found in Peru. The food at the cafe next door is amazingly good. Over all this hotel was great compared to the other in town. Staff was friendly

Well located, this is an old wooden house that has been restored into a hotel. Rooms are nice, everything is clean. The breakfast that comes with the room fee is tasty, and at night they light up the chimney in a coasy little leaving room.
Only complaint: floors are creaky and walls are thin so it you're a light sleeper, you should go to another hotel!

My husband and I stayed at the Casa Vieja in May for 4 nights and had a wonderful time. It is conveniently located, clean and they have a very nice breakfast. Despite our lack of Spanish they were able to help us and made sure our stay was enjoyable. They even offered us a scrub brush to clean our shoes when they saw us using a bobby pin! The cafe next door is also nice for a lite meal.

Room Tip: I would ask for a room on the 2nd floor
