“A Hostel That Cares!”
Reviewed 11 June 2014 via mobile

It's the owners who truly make this hostel as good as it is. Jose is a fountain of knowledge - he's like an encyclopaedia of information for the area, local tours and activities. While his wife Doña is always ready to welcome with a warm smile. Just a block from the main plaza, there are no bunk beds here - just nice three bed dorms with TVs for those who want some downtime. Adequate kitchen, hot water, great laundry service, wifi can be slow at times but when it's good it's good (and works al over the hostel even in bedrooms). Thought has been put into this hostel - little things like having a bedside table with reading lamp for each person, hooks and shelves in the bathroom for your stuff, loo roll and soap in each toilet, clothes line on each floor for drying towels etc. highly recommend this hostel also for its sociability and Jose provides you with all you need to fill every day in Chachapoyas!

This perfectly located hostal would be nice anyway but it is made into a winner by Jose and Dona, plus everyone else who lives or works there! They are so friendly and helpful and you feel like part of the family straight away.

The rooms are also clean, spacious and the beds comfortable. Plus you get a towel, always nice. The kitchen is clean and well stocked too.

The only downside was really unreliable WiFi but with internet cafes everywhere in Chachapoyas, plus such informative hosts, it wasn't really an issue. You can also use the hostel computer if you need.

Clean, comfortable, hosts welcoming and helpful with advise about Chachapoyas. Nice kitchen with groups of guests making space to cook around each other. Best of all (you will appreciate this if you've been traveling in Peru) it has toilet seats! Everything works, even the hot water. Quiet spot within a few steps of the square. Highly recommended.

I had a wonderful stay here. It was one of my highlights of being in Chachapoyas. The place is clean and friendly. Jose and Dona were very patient and informative and helpful. I also had the best sleep here in the super comfy bed. !

If there are Hostel owners anywhere in the world who work harder for their guests than Jose and Dona, I would be amazed. From the moment we were met off the overnight bus at 6.00 am until the time we left 5 days later our every question-and we had a lot!- were answered. Trips to Kuelap, Gocha Falls, vegetarian food, mountain bike hire and coffee from the excellent Cafe Fusiones not to mention advice from a doctor friend when diarrhoea struck...The Hostel is clean and social- and perfectly placed to explore the town..don't miss the market! Jose and Dona are as proud of Chachapoyas as they are of their Hostel. This is a centre for world class archaeological sites, stunning natural landscapes, wondrous wild life and the friendliest of welcomes. Top place.

Room Tip: We had a triple room which was next to the office and kitchen so not the quietest but we were offere...

My husband and I stayed here for 4 nights in May, and it was lovely. The place is very clean and well put together. The couple that runs the place, Jose and Dona, are really really nice. Dona doesn't speak much English, so if your Spanish is not that good, try and catch Jose, his english excellent. Jose also can sells tours, and his prices are competitive (pretty much everyone charges the same prices for the standard tours).

I was sad that they don't take credit cards, this being at the end of our trip, it would have been helpful, but I can also say that about the majority of places we visited in Peru, so not really a big deal.

My one complaint would be the hot water. We never were WITHOUT hot water, but something with the shower closest to our room went wrong, and we had to share a bathroom a little further away to get a hot shower. Their hot water system is like this: You can get good water pressure with lukewarm water, or you can have low water pressure with hot water. But of course, this is Peru, and it's a hostel, so I was ok with the situation.

The kitchen was in use almost every day we were there, and was often the sight of much carousing and good times. If you like a community (but not crazy-party) feel, this is the place for you.

The location is EXCELLENT.

Room Tip: no credit cards here. Ask Jose or Dona for anything you like or are having trouble with, they will h...

Safe, clean and friendly hostel with a lovely atmosphere. Made to feel very at home, and Jose is incredibly kind and helpful. His family will help you arrange everything around the region - especially if you want to take local transport! Very good value.
