We camped here with a trailer tent for a week and loved every bit of it! The food, staff and location were really good. This is a place to chill and relax.
Go to the Old Pearler Restaurant in the village of Denham, phone first, it is awesome. The Shotover catamaran was brilliant we went twice once on the 3 hour sea adventure and oh my god fantastic free with the other trip, sunset cruise. Buy the polarized sunnies they are worth it at $30.00.
Camp kitchen well equipped, TV / bar lounge, long walks on the best beaches.

    We will return x

We had prebooked a garden villa at the Resort. When we arrived we were able to upgrade to a newly refurbished beachfront villa (for an extra payment). What a treat!
The villa faced directly onto the beach. We sat on the balcony and watched the dophins swim up and down the beach. The private barbeque was wonderful although the groceries available at the shop were limited.

The villas have a king size bed and a single bed. The ensuite was small but adequate with complimentary toiletries and plenty of fresh towels for the bath and beach.

Overall we stayed for three nights and enjoyed two cruises, cooked barbeques, swam and the dolphins swam right by us, sat on the balcony and enjoyed glasses of wine while watching the sun set and enjoyed a very relaxing break in our touring holiday. What an idyllic location.

We are glad to hear that you had a great time whilst in Monkey Mia, and our partially refurbished Beach Front Villa was a good treat. We are working hard to improve our rooms and its great to know we are hitting the spot.

We stayed for a week in early December when the resort was only one third full. We had a beach front villa and it was so beautifully decorated, lovely furniture and room decor. We had a two year with us and her port-a-cot and there was still enough room. Admittedly we sat on the front verandah a lot watching the world go by! And what a peaceful world that is! The occasional dolphin swimming by, very few people to be seen, dolphin feeds in the morning were visible from the front and we could go for the 2nd or 3rd feeds which weren't so busy.

We also LOVED the Monkey Bar for it's great meals. They are really well priced (given remoteness of location) and had the best fish and chips Ive eaten anywhere.

We spent a lot of time in the pool and hot tub which was fantastic (and rest assured all those who look at toddlers and think they pee in the water, most parents have them in swimming nappies). Also, the pool is covered with a thatched roof which is great to prevent sunburn. Its not a HUGE pool but we had it to ourselves pretty much all of the time...early December is definitely a great time to travel there!

The cleaning/service man who stocked up the apartment each day was so cheerful and did a great job. We didn't have ANY noise problems and slept amazinly well each night, never heard any parties or drunkeness or loud people etc despite there being a lot of backpackers staying as I met them when cooking in the communal guest kitchen! That is another great thing about the hotel - it had a great kitchen to cook in and then you can bring food back to your fridge/microwave it later (those with toddlers know that plain pasta is a necessary staple to cook!).

The last night there our daughter stepped on something and got an infected foot. We were unable to access medical help until the following morning where a nurse would be able to see her in Denham. This would have meant we'd have missed our flight to Perth, so we for-went that. (Fortunately the abscess popped on the plane and the pus drained so all was well) but the remoteness of the place did make us realize that we wouldn't want to take our elderly parents there who might need a de-fib in a hurry :)

We found the staff really friendly and accomodating and helpful. Thanks to all of them also the lady who picked us up on the shuttle bus. This reminds me also to say that we didn't hire a car for the whole week and just stayed at the resort and did NOTHING! :) Watched dolphins, ate yummy food, swam, built sandcastles, sat in hot tub, watched a few movies, read, relaxed! Didn't do any cruises, didn't go to Denham, didn't ride a camel, just enjoyed having a lovely beach holiday.

The dolphin viewing is great, but be prepared not to feed them or pat them. You'll learn a lot about them from the rangers there who are really passionate about keeping them wild. This is a good thing. If you want to swim with dolphins, go to Seaworld. Its lovely seeing wild dolphins WANTING to interact with humans and come to the beach (okay, maybe just wanting some fast food!) but it's not like it used to be 20 years ago when you could pat them and feed them as much as you liked.

Perhaps the only negative thing about the week was bullants that appeared on our 2nd or third day inside. I can deal with little ants which were also there, but the bigger ants I'd hate anyone to get an allergic bite (and as mentioned earlier, really limited medical access). We were given ant-rid traps for them but it didn't stop them. Thankfully didn't get bitten.
Minor point (since on holiday who needs to check email anyway!?) - the internet was incredibly slow and a bit pricey.

Also, there are not just dolphins but pelicans and emus wandering about. The emu had four little chicks with her and its lovely to seem them.

So overall, it was a wonderful place to have a restful holiday with a toddler and also have such a great family time, where you don't have to rush off and do a million sight seeing expeditions, but just relax. I think our villa was worh paying for as it ensures quietness (perhaps the site map we were given on arrival could be put up on display on the net so people can view where their accomodation would be? In relation to the beach and other 'noisy' backpackers.)

Thank you for your comments regarding your recent stay at Monkey Mia Dolphin Resort.

I am glad to hear that you had a great time whilst in Monkey Mia and enjoyed the facilities the resort has to offer.

I am sorry to hear you had some ants in your room, they are out in force during this time of the year, nature always finds a way around our prevention plans!

Our remoteness does restrict medical care here, but we do have a very helpful local Silverchain nursing post in Denham (28K away) and in an emergency also have access to the Flying Doctor and St Johns Ambulance services from Denham.

Thank you once again for a really detailed review of our resort and your experience, we look forward to welcoming you back for another restful experience at Monkey Mia.

    Thanks and regards

Visited in 1987 when there was virtually nothing there. On return disappointed with the overdevelopment with more building to follow. Beachside rooms very close to backpacker accommodation which didn't work. Kids on scooters and noisy at 6.00am next to the door. Also party on the beach at 3.00am with no one able to control noise.

Allowed fishing from the bathing beach - shark came close on one occasion 'stealing' the catch and causing worries to bathers. Also jet skiing and motor boats very close to dolphin environment.

Room poorly equipped. Decent food in both restaurant and pub - reasonably priced.

    Dear Guest

Thank you for your comments regarding your recent stay at Monkey Mia Dolphin Resort.

I am happy to hear that you enjoyed our food offering in the Boughshed Restaurant and Monkey Bar, and that you felt the outlets offered good value for money.

I am sorry to hear your disappointment with regard to some of the changes we have made to the resort since your last visit in the 80’s. I am confident that future development will be in line with strict government guidelines, and hope that this can assure you of its relevance to the local reserve and future emphasis on eco tourism.

During your visit, which fell in a holiday season, we do experience a high volume of children in the resort, I am sorry they disturbed you, and will ensure that there is more signage in our rooms regarding the duty manager who can help to resolve noise problems. I hope this will help guests in the future who may experience the same concern.

The DEC (Department of Conservation) have strict fishing rules in Monkey Mia, and I will certainly pass on your concerns regarding fishing limitations, and commercial/leisure boats in the vicinity of the beach. I know they monitor this very closely and will be interested in your comments.

I hope that your concerns do not stop you revisiting us in the future and we all look forward to welcoming you back soon.

    Thanks and regards

This is a resort catering for everything from camper vans to chalets. It appears to be the only one in the area. the chalets are reasonably comfortable and ideal if you are self catering for a family. The dolphins appear at set times anrd are hand fed...a little like a circus act!.fun for kids but I like to see them swimming naturally at sea. The tour (more of that later and the company) gave us little time to appreciate the places we viisited. A good place for young families
