Riksgränsen is a skiing and hiking resort in the very north of Sweden. It is situated in the wilderness that is really amazing, some 150 kilometers from the nearest town in Sweden, Kiruna. Riksgränsen is THE place in Sweden for off-pist and heli-skiing. However, the ski area is pretty small and the lifts are antique. The ski area has a potential that is much larger!

The Riksgränsen hotel is really nice with a large lobby with an open (gas) fire. The rooms are pretty basic, partly renovated and partly a bit worn down, but on the whole ok for a few days skiing. The beds are comfortable but we were disturbed by noice from the corridor several times during the night. The WiFi is free of charge but did not work very well. Some time it worked very well but most of the time it didn't work to connect to the network. The breakfast was good for the start of a skiing day but nothing to write home about. The dinner in the restaurant in the evening did surprise us though, it was excellent. Highly recommended! But the best thing about the whole stay was the staff at the hotel, they were VERY nice and VERY helpful.

Upgrade the lifts in the ski are and we will be back next year and the year after and ....

This was certainly a time one of the best. Today, after many years, it is rundown, poorly maintained and unattractive.
Shuttle bus stopped 200 meters from the hotel. We - a family of 4 adults and 3 small children - were carrying and lugging all our bags, skis, boots, helmets and sticks on an uphill slope. There was a guy there with a tractor, but he said it would be unfair if someone took our luggage and the other was wearing. He set the standard for the services offered.
Lift system was a historic experience. If you wanted a beer it cost more than fine restaurant.
A Salle enthusiasts who like that kind of skiing on offer but absolutely nothing for a family with children. And not worth the price.
If you go there. Make sure you do not get room with view straight into a dirty snow drift.

We stayed for 6 nights and had 3 days Heli skiing with super spring snow conditions, organized by mountain guide holidays in Riksgränsen.
We were made very welcome by all staff in the hotel and had good food and service. Heli guides Andreas and christian plus the pilots were very professional. Shop and ski hire well equipped at reasonable prices
Ski resort itself had few old lifts, but runs and off piste potential were very extensive..
Only downside generally was the price of alcoholic and soft drinks. Don't even think about wine. Decent at around
40 S e k . So unusual Lapland location for snow mobile driving and ski touring as well. Will certainly come again. Spa pool Joe jacuzzi sauna great.

Great skiing, bad service. The room was a big downhill, but great nature and great skiing. The pool is a joke, the food is okay, at its best. Way to much money for tid stay. But the skiing was great, so if you are into skiing, it can be okay.

During our trip to see the midnight sun, this is a worthy place to use as a place to rest. This is a clean and functional place, which we reached by bus from Kiruna Airport. The room had a small kitchenette, which was very valuable for preparing a light meal. There is a small shop to buy essentials, but no ATM machine, so remember to bring cash with you. Access to the trains is very convenient, but by aware that trains are infrequent, and so you need to have easy to a timetable.
After a day's hiking, we enjoyed relaxation in the Arctic bar and a local cocktail "Varitas" (which means Wolf's paw) at the local bar at Meterologen.

We stayed there for a night after spending a couple of days in Abisko. We were there in September 2011, but that was not the right season I guess. We were the only 2 people staying in this place and hence it appeared quite scary.

Location is quite beautiful and close to railway station as well. We could even walk up to Norway border. As we didnt have too many options, we decided to go to Narvik (Norway) for a day-long trip. Train journey was nice and very scenic.

I'm sure this hotel will be at its peak during winters; just that we were there in the wrong season.

We stayed for one week in May 2011 and we were lucky that it was snowing on our way from Kiruna Airport. The weather was so bad that we had to stay and wait in Björkliden to wait for the snowplough, However the day after were fantastic with lots of snow to go offpist in.

The hotel is quite spartan and the most annoying part is that you are quite trapped up here, no decent store and the pub and restaurant prices are high. The food is really good in the restaurant, though.

But if you are there only in hope of good offpist skiing, you may get lucky. The light conditions are mostly poor, but this is really one of my favourite places to be on a sunny day with lots of powder snow.
