If you're looking for hotels in Ternate, you'll quickly find out that there's one "world-class" hotel, meaning that it's comfortable and modern, and that's the Amara Bela. I stayed at the Archie, because I wasn't willing to spend that much. Know that in the more remote parts of Indonesia, there's usually a huge difference in quality between the best and second best hotels. The Archie is usually rated second best.
The room was dark and depressing, and you couldn't open the curtains without seeing directly into someone's home, so the room stayed dark and depressing. The air conditioning was weak, and the power is out for approximately 8 hours a day, which is a problem with Ternate, not with the hotel, however, I suspect that a nicer hotel would have generators. The weather is oppressively hot, so this was a problem.
On the plus side, they had regular, sitting toilets, and a regular shower, even though there wasn't hot water in my room. Oddly, there was no sink, so i had to wash my hands and face in the shower. There were a few geckos in my room, though I think they spray for them, because toward the end of my stay, there was a dead one in the middle of the bathroom.
The staff were nice, and the breakfast (included) was excellent. The hotel was so uncomfortable, however, that I don't think I'd come back to Ternate unless I could afford the Amara Bela.
