We have just spent an amazing 4 days at Rippons (part of shamwari game reserve) . spent 2weeks in total in SA but this was the best bit. everything about this stay was superb. The accommodation, service, game drives (we did 8 in total 4sunrise,4 sunset.)food, location. thanks to Bryan and co and our ranger Norfias who was very knowedgeable. We managed to see an abundance of wildlife on every game drive. The group we were with were great fun also so it all added up to afantastic experience!! need warm clothing during spring (sep) as temps plummet during eve and early morn.

Room Tip: long barn has fab views and your own terrace

Upon arrival we were briefed about the lodge and game reserve by the manager Brian. Brian is a character thht you'll remember for ever. If like me you have wanted to go safari since being knee high to a Springbok, then Brian is just the man you visualised being the ranger/bushman you would encounter. Our actual ranger was Notias, and being in his landcruiser was like being in a real wildlife documentary... only much, much better. Every drive we went on we saw something specatular whether it was lions mating, cheater stalking, hyena and elephants within touching distance, the list would go on. We stayed three nights and got out on 5 drives in that time. The food is excellent and the rooms are very comfortable and clean. There was a small swimming pool, but wasn't heated and so too cold go in. This lodge is steeped in history, but has retained a family run feel to it. Dinner is a relaxed affair, around a table with those you have shared an amazing day with. It felt like dining with friends, not starngers and it was sad to leave this very special place. Take warm clothes with you as it can get a bit chilly in the mornings and whist in the landcruiser.

Room Tip: Long barn room for couples, these open up onto the pool and sun loungers, beyond is a waterhole that...

Myself and three friends spent two nights in Rippons which was the highlight of our holiday in South Africa. From the minute we arrived the staff made us feel so welcome and looked after our every need. The game drives were brilliant fun and our ranger Chris was unbelievable and managed to find even the most elusive leopard for us on our last morning. We would highly recommend Rippons

Myself and my wife spent 3 great nights at Rippons for our honeymoon, the game drives were excellent and informative, the food was great and plentiful and the accommodation was really good. In addition the drinks were surprisingly inexpensive at the lodge

My wife and I have just returned from a most enjoyable trip to South Africa where we experienced three wonderful nights at the Rippons Safari Lodge. From the moment we arrived we have nothing but praise for all the staff. We were treated like lords and shown to our magnificent room which was in the Long Barn and overlooked the watering hole and dam. We met our fellow guests after they returned from the evening game drive and enjoyed a wonderfully cooked evening meal. Our first Safari was at 6 in the morning - boy was it chilly - our ranger Francis was very knowledgeable and we saw a plethora of species ranging from elephants to lions. This was followed by three more drives with Francis who then went away on holiday and his place was taken by Chris who certianly knew how to make a Safari exciting with male elephants that did not want to move but decided to charge the jeep. This unfortunately had to finish the next day and what an exciting drive in search of the southern pride of lions (which we finally caught up with) definitely a Fararri Safari. It was with sadness that we had to leave this leave this lovely location - we made a promise that we would return to find the Leopard which eluded us....

Room Tip: Try and get a room in the Long Barn

We only spent 3 nights there, but I so wish we had stayed longer. The weather was a little unkind but this was more than compensated for by the people. The staff are fantastic and make you feel like a long lost friend. I cannot recommend the place highly enough. If you haven't been on safari, do it. If you are going to do it, then go to Rippon's lodge.

The word awesome is sadly overused these days, but in the context of Rippon's and Shamwari it is perfectly justified. Given the time and money I would go back tomorrow!

From the moment of our arrival and the warm, friendly reception from Bryan, we fell under the spell of Rippons. We were shown our most attractive room with terrace overlooking the valley and told we could have a lunch platter and then join others on the afternoon safari. Our first experience with Chris, our Ranger, was incredibly wonderful and each time we were out we appreciated more and more how fortunate we were to have such a knowledgeable, pleasant, enthusiastic guide who was prepared to go that extra mile to ensure everyone had a fantastic time. The food prepared by the 2 chefs was excellent and varied. One evening after dinner the staff sang for us - such talent - and another reason for making Rippons such a unique experience. Many thanks to every one of the staff for making our time there so unforgettable.
