“Lovely place to stay”
Reviewed 19 October 2012 via mobile

We were traveling from France to Nerja for a wedding and broke the trip up and found this lovely hotel. The service was wonderful. The rooms were wonderful. We had been traveling and wanted dinner but they started service at 8 just a little late for hungry travelers. The view was great. Totally would recommend this lovely place to stay.

My wife and I enjoyed 3 days recently at this hotel, helped by the most perfect October weather. This brings me to the most extraordinary thing I have ever experienced at ANY hotel. Despite this perfect weather the Management insisted that the pool and pool area be closed from 14.00 - 16.00!!! This didn't sit well with us as it was the one thing we wanted to do and it was too hot to do anything else - 31C. I'm afraid I dug my heels in and refused to leave. This was eventually accepted and towards the end of the 3 days I noticed that the rule had been relaxed, possibly as we continued to lie there. I never discovered why this was so, despite asking various staff.
On other things, we had an enormous suite at an excellent price. It was extremely comfortable but you need to bring your own tissues, slippers and tea making kettle, none of which were provided.
The buffet breakfast was fine but the lunch and dinner buffets were very disappointing. We found it was better to eat out. It is 5 mins by car to the town centre, or a 20 min walk along the seafront.
We found very little to do in Aguilas, but it was off season so maybe there is more in the summer.
Overall very good value for our money.

Room Tip: Choose a suite if the price is right

We stayed overnight at this Hotel on a trip to the sea side. The Hotel has large airy public areas and helpful staff.
There is a charge of 10 euros to park in the Hotels underground car park, but we had no problem parking for free in the adjacent street, the area is very quiet.
The room was very clean and well equipped.
Breakfast had a good spread of foods, although the hot foods were cold due to the use of air conditioning in the restaurant.
Evening in the bar which has an open terrace, entertainment consisted of a young man with a laptop contected to large speakers which consisted of a house beat mix of latin american Beatles tunes, this was set against a background audience of elderly people playing cards and dominoes.
The location which at first appears a little out of Town is connected by a nice promenade which fringes the beach.
There are a number of cafes and restaurants nearby and overall is a nice place to stay in Aguilas

I have been to this hotel several times with my family to eat at its restaurant. The hotel is always very clean and the staff are very polite. The food is really fresh and you can eat as much as you want for less than 20 euros. The food is so fresh that you can even choose any fish or meat that you like and they cook it for you at that moment. The hotel is just in front of the beach and the port. After lunch you can go out for a nice walk along the beach, and if you like walking then go to St. John's Castle... It costs 2 euros and the views are really worth it (if you are retired admission is free).
I must also say that my cousin has stayed at the hotel with her husband and they were very pleased with the room, the food and the spa. They told me that they enjoyed that weekend at the hotel very much.

We have just come back from a 3 night stay and all in all we enjoyed it. We booked a 1 bedroom suite which was fantastic it have a huge bed 2 bathrooms and a jacuzzi bath. The only tiny issue i had was the shower in the 2nd bathroom didn't work but as we didn't really need it, it was no big deal. We were on bed and breakfast which was a very high standard you name it, it had it cereals, hot food, pastries all the works. We also payed for lunch one day which was also a buffet of a equally high standard. You probably wondering why i haven't given it 5 stars but the biggest reason was the strange pool opening times. On a Monday to Friday it is only open 12pm-2pm and 5pm-8pm i found it strange and a pain in the backside as we couldn't really used it as we have a 22 month old, so if we went to the beach we would stay few a few hours and by the time we got back the pool would be closed. I thought i'd save the best thing until last i thought it was a very nice touch that on each night we got brought up to our room a bottle of cava in a bucket in ice with 2 glasses. This was free and if we weren't in it was left for us.

Room Tip: book a suite they are worth every penny

It is a higher end hotel- with typical Spanish shortcomings. Rooms are clean- but could be cleaner. Staff are nice- but could be friendlier and more accommodating. Room was well appointed- but a chair bizarrely hid a pipe coming up out of the floor where the refrigerator area was. In an unsettling way, the windows did not lock on the 2nd floor location- near a roof. The door appeared to have at one point been jimmied open (what's worse than see chucks of wood off near the lock)? WORSE were the hallways where lights were on timers that turned off while fumbling with your key to open your door- leaving you in scary darkness. WTH? I hope they read this and remedy all these issues. There was an water spa area (hot tub, sauna, steam room). We wandered into it hoping to use the hot tub. We were rushed out as if interlopers who had stolen into the hotel. A sign in the elevator offered a nice massage/facial package. When I inquired about booking- they said no it was not available. I mean seriously- there appeared to be no one in the spa- they should have offered this to me. Thus the Spanish lack of business sense... We booked a 2 bedroom suite- which was great for our family of 4 - both bedrooms were "private". There were 3 beautiful marble bathrooms- read it- THREE. But like so many Spanish hotels- you flood the floor when you shower (is this some American shortcoming we are not clued in about?) A lovely deep jacuzzi bath in one. English channels on TV. Two couples could split this suite nicely.

Due to jet lag- and us being nitwits, we left a suitcase and drove away. They nicely called us on the road but 2 hours away. They would not ship the bag to us (at of course OUR expense). If anyone has ever tried to get DHL and Seur to pick up something without the CIT number on a website in Spanish- we cannot you how difficult it was. Luckily a lovely inn owner at our next stop helped us. PS- this hotel used to be called something else like Don Juan if you get lost. It’s what everyone knows it by… It is on the southern side of the town- drive in and turn right. Eat at El Tiburon for an authentic meal a short walk north- ask at the front desk for how to get there.

Room Tip: Make sure the locks work on your doors and windows...

Each time we visit Aquilas we go to this wonderful place for lunch. Their lunch time menu is very reasonably priced and the view is lovely over the marina, with just a short stroll to the beach.
