Breathtakingly good. The atmosphere is serene, the hospitality welcoming without being gushy. And the food is to die for. Exquisite, locally sourced, food cooked to perfection by the best chef in the country. Frances' food is to die for.
From amuse bouches to dessert, this place is just out of this world. The best in the country, I'd say.

It was a cold Monday in mid January. We were the only people staying but we're made to feel very welcome. The room was enormous, the bath excellent and the food wonderful. We drove up to Middlemoor to take in the view. It is very remote up there. Be sure to check out the smallest cricket pitch in England!

Driving through Nidderdale is perfect enough, but rolling up to the Yorke Arms seems to promise something special. Even if you missed Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon enjoying themselves on their TV Trip, as the long, ivy-clad façade comes into view, you feel confident you’re going to have a good time.

The place doesn’t disappoint and the food is a joy. The building is generations of beeswaxed beams and fine oak furniture and you have the clear sense that this old inn has always been in the business of making people comfortable. We liked the modern vibe of contemporary art mixed in with old and it was good to know we could continue the dream and buy the pictures. The prices confirmed we were indeed somewhere special and that maybe we should concentrate our energies on lunch rather than art collecting.

The menu dishes were different from those we had read online and we liked the seasonal references – for autumn: grouse, blackberries, etc. Times between courses were perfect and staff showed a genuine friendliness as if they, too, enjoyed being there. Advice or information was given when asked (yes, it was possible to have the white burgundy by glass and it would certainly make an excellent match for the halibut). This halibut was creamy and exceptional: cooked with great delicacy yet generous too, complementing vegetables and dressed beautifully. We were glad to pass chef Frances Atkins on the way from the dining room and tell her the halibut was nectar.

By the time we took coffee in the lounge, we were slowing down, but nevertheless rose to the challenge of the gorgeous petit fours (well, three each actually) - irresistible.

Thank you, Yorke Arms. It was a great experience.

We stayed at The Yorke Arms as a post birthday treat with friends. From arrival to departure we had a wonderful experience. Our room was lovely with an extremely comfortable bed, well furnished with a beautiful light modern bathroom. (We were moved from a very small room at the back to a much larger room (Grouse) at the front.)
The location is superb.
We had pre-dinner drinks in the lounge in front of a roaring log fire. We were the only diners that evening so it felt a little like our own country house!
Dinner was exquisite with amazing flavours bursting from every mouthful!
My only criticism of dinner and breakfast was the ever present front of house staff hovering around constantly. This made us feel a little rushed and uncomfortable. During one course at dinner the plates of those who had finished were removed before I finished my course. I didn't expect that in this class of restaurant but I guess this can be forgiven!
As we were the only diners the staff were not busy so were more obvious.
The trip was mainly about the experience of great food and for that we were not disappointed!
Will hopefully return!

Room Tip: Some rooms are very small so enquire when booking.

The food and service was very good even though the food can be a bit too Arty Farty and the service a little overly attentive at times. But I recommend this place even though the atmosphere can sometimes make you feel like your in your Head Masters office waiting for a caning ! HA HA

Who would have thought that the humble turnip could have been elevated to such gastronomic heights as this festive amuse-bouche created by Frances Atkins at the wonderful Yorke Arms Christmas break. We booked to stay Cristmas eve, day and Boxing Day and enjoyed a most restful and gourmet experience. The amuse-bouche, a drift of snowy creamed turnip and crystallised walnuts and cranberries was a triumph. My starter of Native Lobster, cured wild Salmon, Shrimp, Smoked Avocado, Beetroot and Maple a fishy delight. I also enjoyed the Truffle Cod Mozzarella, Langoustine, Linguini, sea Rosemary. There was Goose, Turkey and delicious Christmas Pud and even Bitter Chocolate Soufflé, Grand Marnier Ice Cream, Kumquat. We managed a few walks over the hills and dales and can honestly say it is an experience We will be never forget! Thank you Bill and Frances Atkins. .!
