“A little piece of heaven”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 February 2005

Had heard great things about the place from a work colleague who regularly goes here for lunch but was then slightly concerned about the negative comments included in the two previous reviews here. I needn't have been.

The welcome, drinks in the beautiful bar area, dinner, room and breakfast were all fantastic and I couldn't and, seemingly unlike your previous reviewers, do not wish to, find any faults. There weren't any.

Everything here was spot on including the service, the decor, the ambience, the style and volume of the background music, the temperature of the milk we were given to take to our room etc. etc. Whatever one might be doing to need more plug sockets than were available in one's room is hard to imagine. If it had to do with working then that person was in the wrong place. You should kick back and relax in this haven!

Anyway, I would go again like a shot to experience more of Frances's wonderful food and to be pampered by her wonderful, professional, friendly and accommodating team.

A delight!

I recently took my wife to The Yorke Arms for a well earned treat....and what a treat it turned out to be. Everything about our few days stay at the place was just first class. I can't adequately write down how good the food is...it's just on a different level to anything else I've experienced. The owners, Frances and Bill, made us feel so welcome and nothing was too much trouble for the staff. The rooms were a pleasant suprise as I believe most have just benefited from a re-fit, ours had a glorious bath in which to soak away the excesses of the previous evening. We'll definately be going back there, sooner rather than later.

Egon Ronay rated The Yorke Arms one of the top 25 restaurants in the UK. So we 'phoned and managed to book a room at the last minute, due to a cancellation. The whole Yorke Arms experience is one to be remembered for a very long time ! The food is outstanding, and Egon Ronay's comments about Frances Atkins cooking were very accurate. Frances' cooking is rated 1 star by Michelin, but having eaten at many 1 star establishments, Frances' food is surely worthy of 2 stars?
We were absoluteley astounded by the contempary design of the bedroom and fabulous bathroom. We certainly didn't expect such style and chic in the middle of the Yorkshire Dales!
Frances and her team run a great establishment - one everyone should get the chance to visit at least once!

The Yorke Arms, Ramsgill Nr Patley Bridge North Yorkshire is an owner operated Michelin Stared restaurant with rooms. The food was sublime; unfortunately the service and hospitality came a long way below the food. The owner Frances should be aware who is and who is not one of her guests when operating a business of this standard. When we were there the very smoky residents lounge was full with the residue of Sunday lunch diners, so we had to sit in the bar area. When asking for a drink we were treated to a mild interrogation to ensure we were hotel guests. Our room was a suit, which although large was rather incongruously furnished and the bathroom was less than clean and poorly equipped. The room of our companions was very small and poorly equipped. I would go back willingly for the food but would not waste my money on a room again. Rather disappointing was that the hosts husband did not spend more time in the bar, as in the brief spell he was behind the bar he displayed excellent hospitably skills.

The Yorke Arms was the venue for our office's Christmas party this year. We were a group of 20 and so were given a beautiful private room. Following Champagne and canapes we were treated to a delicious 5 course dinner which really could not be faulted. The food was fresh, extremely well prepared and well presented and the service was friendly and efficient. However, whilst the restaurant was excellent, the hotel side of the operation needs a little refining. Our room was very comfortable and clean but lacked sufficient power sockets for our needs. The ceiling in the bathroom was very low, which was not a problem for me, but a 5'10 plus man may struggle to have a shower! Our room got a little steamed up from the shower and this set the fire alarm off 3 or 4 times before a member of staff came to advise us what we needed to do to stop this from happening. Breakfast, which I was told by a colleague was delicious, was only served between 8am and 9am, a little too early for me on a Saturday; and the newspaper I ordered did not arrive. I would recommend this venue as a restaurant without any hestitation but if you're planning to spend the night, do not expect 5 star standards
