Delicious food, lovely staff & well worth the round trip from Newcastle! Out on a Sunday jaunt, we called in here initialy for tea & cake (after all it is a "Tea Room"), but having not eaten lunch decided to start with savoury. Our initial choice of sausage sandwiches were available, but explained as not having the usual white buns/baguette as had run out (it was late in the afternoon), so would be being served in brown baguette or sliced white bread. We changed our order to egg mayonnaise, & how impressed were we!!..Don't know quite how to sell this sandwich other than to say boring it was not -absolutey delicious, served in a warmed light brown baguette with accompanying salad & coleslaw. Back to the initial intention of the visit, we rounded the meal off with warmed raspberry bakewell & warmed apple cake, both served with cream, the whole lot washed down with pot of tea for 2 (acutally serving 5 & a half cups!). Faced with the long drive home, we purchased 2 cheese scones for supper to finish our Yorkshire baking treats, & they didn't disappoint - as another customer mentioned while we were there they actually tasted of cheese, lavished with further sprinkings on top - unlike the majority these days whre the cheese taste is difficult to find.
Thanking them for our delicious fare, I suggested if such good baking was the norm, would love to see what they could achieve with a lump of beef & some Yorkshires! Response was that Yorkies would be Richard's domain - if that's the case so be it - even as a Sunday only special - however I think they have their work cut our already coping with the delcious range served. As we were leaving there was still a steady stream of customers arriving at 16.30-bearing in mind they close at 17.00 on a Sunday. if a traditional Sunday Roast was incorporated I'm sure the , the queue would be down the street - or by appointment only!!
