Owner description: "Burg Rheinstein" is nowadays a interesting museum with a long history. There is a restaurant for visitors and if you'd like to a special experience - there two beautiful apartments which can be booked for a overnight stay. The castle "Burg Rheinstein" is located approx. 5 kilometers (approx. 3 miles) westward of Bingen, down the river Rhine, at the south entrance of the UNESCO Cultural Heritage of the Upper Middle-Rhine Valley ("Oberes Mittelrheintal"), face to face with the village of Assmannshausen. The castle was the symbol of the castle-reconstruction period in the 19th century, the so-called Romanticism, because of its impressive location, and also its eventful history had many highlights.

This was the first castle we visited on our castle tour of the Rhine Valley. It set our standard high and has been one of our favorites so far! The garden was very nice as well as the castle interior. We highly suggest stopping in the restaurant for a bite to eat or drink to enjoy the amazing view!

We took boat tour from Rudesheim and this included being dropped off at ponteoon to climb up and enter this castle. Boat tour was great and so was the castle after short steep walk uphil. View from the top is great and if you can make it up then view from top battlement is brilliant. Watch the thin steps up though- no vertigo sufferers.
Lots to see inside as well.
Well worth the climb.

This was the first castle we visited on the Rhine. It is a must...don't miss it. There is free parking at the base, right off the highway. There is a short, steep hike up to the castle, but it isn't difficult. The castle is well worth the visit starting with the gardens. There are multiple levels, furnishings and terraces. Take the rather freaky walk up the steps outside to the keep! It is exciting and the views are great.

Out of four castles visited in the area it was my favorite. Why? I am not sure, it was small, quite, a little too clean, and very peaceful. May be because we avoided large crowds and were able to enjoy tranquility of the place. Good place to start your exploration of the region.

This castle was definitely worth the time to explore. Lots of great pictures and a fantastic view from the Commander's Tower. Self-guided tour with multiple language options in books to use as a guide. Really recommend seeing Rheinstein.
