“A Special Place on Naxos Island”
Reviewed 11 June 2014

Naxos offers a quiet respite from the more touristy Greek islands and there's no better home base for your time there than the Naxian Collection. My friend and I had an unforgettable stay in one of the villas and were made to feel like family from the minute we walked in the door to the moment we said our goodbyes. This is a family operation and you can feel the warmth and passion the family has for their island and its culture.

Our villa was roomy and and cheerful with a clean, modern decor and a great sense of style. Towels were lush and plenty (for the shower and the pool) and the beds comfortable. It was so nice to have a terrace and private pool to kick back and relax when we were not exploring the island. The grounds and views are nothing short of spectacular.

You'll need a car or moped to get around the island but the location of the property is a quick ride in to town and to the nearby beaches; the mountain villages are easily accessible as well. Owner/Manager Ioannis and his friendly staff, including Costas, are available to offer ideas, advice and restaurant recommendations and are always eager to help.

Other guests mentioned the complimentary wine & cheese tasting and delicious breakfasts with straight from the garden ingredients and we enjoyed those as well. What was even more special, however, was the dinner we had on a particularly windy night in Naxos. We didn't feel like driving in the wild weather so we were offered dinner at the hotel. Chef prepared for us perfectly cooked steak with potatoes, vegetables, and a fresh salad. We chose a wonderful wine from Ioannis's cellar to go with our dinner and we couldn't have asked for a more enjoyable evening.

This is the kind of hospitality and generosity that makes Naxian Collection stand out. They'll make you want to stay a little longer and have you planning your next stay even before you're on to the next island. We'll definitely be back!

Room Tip: Splurge for a villa with your own private pool.

We could not say enough good things about our experience at the Naxian Collection!! We were on our honeymoon and spent a solid 3 weeks in Greece, including Athens, Naxos, Mykonos and Santorini and our stay in Naxos was by far the best and most enjoyable thanks to the service and warmth provided by the owner and staff of this amazing hotel. We arrived on a rainy day (rare, and didn't last long) and were greeted by umbrellas, a refreshing traditional Greek drink and sweets! Costas who works there in the evenings then showed us a nice map of Naxos and giving us a great overview of the island and things to do/places to go. We were then invited to a COMPLIMENTARY wine tasting in the hotel cellar which could not have been more fun! Not only was the cellar itself so charming, but Ioannis the owner who loves wine took his time going through generous servings of wines from different regions of Greece and explained about each one. Needless to say a beautiful time was had by all. But the night did not end there. There is a private chef and kitchen on the premises ready to cook whatever your craving may be for lunch and dinner. We had by far one of the best meals we have had in Greece on that first night in Naxos right after coming back upstairs from the wine tasting. It was so convenient not to have to worry about driving into town for food.
The villa we stayed in was also fantastic-very comfortable and stylish, with high-end finishes. There is also a private pool per villa which is absolutely great to have.
But what makes the Naxian collection a true gem is its owner, Ioannis and his staff which includes Costas and his chef, and morning breakfast staff. Every morning at breakfast, Ioannis himself would come say hello to us, make sure we had our breakfast as we wanted, ordered our coffee and omelets for us, and made sure we weren't lacking anything in any way. Costas would take over in the evenings and do the same. These guys are by far what made our experience at the Naxian Collection feel so incredible and amazing. We didn't feel like we were guests- we felt like were close friends and family. So if you want a smaller luxury hotel without losing the warmth of a personal touch and connection, this is the place for you. We missed seeing Ioannis and Costas for the remainder of our trip, even though we were in beautiful Santorini!
Aside from being very friendly and fun, Ioannis and his staff are also very professional and can help you with anything you may need. They very seamlessly arranged for a motorcycle rental for us and the motorcycle was brought right to the hotel and we left the keys at the hotel for pick up at the end also-could not have been more convenient.
The hotel is also very very close to multiple beautiful, pristine beaches. They are a very short drive away, but you can also walk there. The main town of Chora is also only about 2km away and we would very easily get there by the motorcycle. Chora has plenty of restaurants to chose from as well as shops, and it is great to come back to the oasis of the Naxian Collection at the end of your time there. The staff is also ALWAYS accessible and more than willing to help make local recommendations for anything you may have in mind. At the most recommended sea-side restaurant called Faros, they will even call ahead not to just reserve a table for you, but the fresh FISH!! Yes, they will reserve the fish for you :-)!
All in all, we could not have had a better experience at the Naxian Collection. They have set the bar very high in terms of personal service and genuine interest and warmth towards their guests. We miss them already, and will be sure to go back to Naxos just so we can stay at the Naxian Collection again and visit with Iaonnis and Costas! Thank you, Naxian Collection, for an unforgettable experience that we will always cherish!

We had a few quirks with our visit, but all in all it was a good stay. You will need a car as others mentioned, but it's just a short a 7 minute drive in one direction to a line up of many good beaches, and 7 minutes in the other direction to the town of Naxos. Both areas have lots of restaurant options and things to see/do.

Pros:
-The owner and the staff go out of their way to try to make it a special visit. We did a Greek wine and cheese tasting in the hotel's wine cellar which was great (complimentary)! While hanging by the pool they brought us the best tasting Mojitos we have ever had (complimentary again)! Costas who works in the afternoons and evenings is so friendly and good fun to chat with!
-Luxury suites with high end finishes, very comfortable beds.
-Good breakfasts with fresh pastries along with fresh squeezed OJ and any type of coffee you want. Also you have the option of ordering anything a la carte - we got omelettes or scrambled eggs with fruit to start our days off.

Cons:
-Because the units are made of concrete and we were on the lower level (with a group above us) we could hear them moving chairs, walking, talking at night.
-We had luke warm water in our shower every day and freezing cold water on the last day.

This is our first time in Naxos and we are delighted to have discovered this gem of a place to stay at.
The villa (2 bedroom) is very spacious and is perfect for a family of four.
From the pool deck and terrace one has a beautiful view of the landscape and the sea - beach/ beach restaurants are about 15 min walk although dinner is served in the hotel. The owners are going out of their ways to make this vacation a memorable stay. The breakfast is abundant: delicious home made savory and sweet pies, bread, fresh orange juice and if this is not to your liken then omelets, eggs, fresh fruit, yogurt will be prepared.
Naxos reminds me of how the Mediterranean was before all the high rises were built and overwhelmed by mass tourism. From the hotel you can easily walk to the town of Chora (a fair condition is required) but you can easily take a taxi to and from the city. The shop keepers and restaurant ushers are not so pesky as in Rethymnon (Crete) or Santorini which makes it a pleasure to roam around the old town.
We rented a car for a day which was worthwhile to visit this beautiful island.
If we need a break from everything then this hotel will be on our top list to return to.

We spent a couple of weeks travelling through Greece, stopping in Athens, Santorini, Mykonos and Naxos. The entire trip was spectacular, Our time in Naxos was the least impressive. The town is wonderful, with many hidden back street and never-ending winding shops and restaurants. don't get drawn in to the few right at the port; they are very touristy and there is so much more behind the port that is authentic, quaint and wonderful.

We stayed at the Naxian Collection villas and were very disappointed. These are not luxury villas. They are very sparse, very cold and very much average. Ioannis (sp?), the owner/manager, met us and gave us a very quick, superficial spin through the villa. He was obviously in a rush, and not particularly interested in us as guests. There is an ok view, but it paled in comparison to everywhere else we had been.

Breakfast in the morning was challenging. It was bread, on top of bread, on top of sweet bread soaked in sugar, on top of more bread. They also served some sort of Greek quiche with a 2 inch thick bread bottom and a ton of oil. There was nothing even remotely healthy, and even if you are fine with this fare as a start to your day, it wasn't tasty. We finally just asked for some fruit and yogurt.

There was no service to speak of. The place was so cold that we needed blankets at night, and there is no number to call. We were given Ioannis' cell number, but he didn't answer. We finally went to the front and asked for blankets. They saved us, however they were gone the following morning and we had to do the same chase for the next night.

Breakfast the next morning was equally challenging, and we were happy to move on to Mykonos. There are some lovely trails and hiking that we did during the day and we found a wonderful café called 520 in the evening, with great music, wine, tea and cocktails. Their service was wonderfully warm. We ended up there both nights.

I would not recommend this hotel. I had read other reviews and thought It would be warm and charming and somewhat luxurious and we did not experience that at all. It was perhaps "off" season, but not very busy, so you would think that the service would be even more impressive with fewer guests. We got the feeling that they weren't really ready to receive guests in May.

Absolutely the best experience ever. Forget the rest, try the best. Tip: breakfast is to die for, will definitely return, the rooms were fantastic with private swimming pools. The staff was very friendly and extremely helpful.
Gianni, our host greets everyone as they arrive and makes sure your every needs are fulfilled. We happened to be there for Easter, and we were privileged to watch a traditional Easter feast being prepared, afterwards all the guests and families enjoyed some of the best food and wine I have ever tastes. I,hated to leave I could have spent my entire vacation at this spot.

Last summer, we were on vacation and visited Athen, Mykonos, Santorini and Naxos. We loved the trip, but of all the places, Naxian Collection holds a special place in our hearts. The owners are genuinely amongst the nicest people you would meet. Yanis had said we missed a BBQ the day before we checked in, but they still had some wild lamb left and he would fire the grill up for us. It was amazing! Yanis seems to know everyone on the island and he is a wealth of information. He helped us with information on how to do a day trip to Koufinissi where my then boyfriend proposed, and we had a toast on the beach with some home made wine that Yanis gave to us. We have recommended Naxos, and specifically the Naxian Collection to all of our friends who are thinking of visiting Greece. The breakfasts in the morning are the best we have ever had. I would do anything to return.
