Keep going on up - you will not be disappointed! This is a great climb, whether you are venturing out on the Pennine Way or just mooching around locally for the day. It is a toughie, but no more than within the capabilities of any average fell-walker. It's all in the mind! The walk to the Ladder is very pretty, passing along a scenic valley with the moors creeping increasingly inwards. The finale is just before the Ladder itself, with its pretty bridge and verdant beckside spot ideal for a swig of water and a cereal bar before attempting the slog upwards. Suitably fortified, grab your stamina in both hands for the assault. Yes, it can be a bit of a grind and many people can be seen just focusing on placing one boot in front of another, but the views across to the bulwarks of Kinder Scout and back down towards Edale from the top are as good as you will get in this area of the Peaks. And, now you are so far up, you might as well carry on to the summit of Kinder.........!

“Beautiful and worth the hard core climb!”
Reviewed 7 March 2014

It's a hard climb but so worth it! You climb near a waterfall, up many many stone steps, to truly stunning views at the top. Amazing!

“popular up/down”

if you are walking in the Dark Peak, you will probably use this route. It does zigzag and is fenced and slabbed to reduce erosion. Whether it hurts more to climb or descend may depend on your personal preference and you knees. The stream below is pretty, and once on a quiet day I saw a dipper in it.

“Very slippery”

Ground very churned up and difficult to walk down but only a short walk so you can quickly get down think it was easier coming down than going up!

“Take your time and enjoy”

A hilly barrier on the walk from Edale to Hayfield but on well defined paths- not to be rushed but enjoyed at your own pace.
