We have just returned from a week long stay at The Gathering & we really have had the most wonderful break. I cannot recommend this place enough - an incredible location at the start of the pennine way and situated next to a stream which adds to the calm and serenity of the place.

We stayed in The Ryedale which is a huge safari tent with a king size bed and two further rooms with single beds to sleep 6 in total. The bedding and bathroom could have come straight out of a boutique hotel and for people that normally get out of bed at 6am, we had ridiculous lie ins as the beds were just so comfy! This is glamping at a completely different level!

The Ryedale has hot running water (I think you have to fire up stoves in the other 3 tents to heat the water) and is accessible for those with disabilities. There is parking adjacent to the tent and very easy access. The hosts Tommy & Kirsty really have thought of everything & the kitchen is very well equipped with a gas ring to make a quick cup of tea or meal. This tent even has a fridge to keep the wine and beer super chilled! There is a dining table for 6 in the tent, as well as outdoor table and chairs, and a really comfortable sofa and chair next to the log burner which throws out heat. Don't be frugal with the logs - keep the fire topped up and Tommy or Geoff will replace kindling and logs every day. We were even brought ice every evening for G&Ts - what more can you ask for?!

Tommy & Kirsty are the perfect hosts and they have created an incredible bolt hole. They are attentive without being overbearing and the most genuine people we have ever met. We had our 4 year old with us & they even brought her a bag of toys and introduced her to their children to play with. Nothing is too much trouble.

I could go on but you must try it for yourselves. We will definitely be back...

We had the absolute pleasure of staying in the shooting lodge for one night. We were a party of three brothers celebrating are advancing years and picked this location due to its close proximity to Kinder Scout. Words cannot express that absolute joy we had. The owners could not have been more accommodating the location is sublime, the rooms beautiful, the attention to detail stunning and the Breakfast, so large that 3 x 16 stone men could not eat it all. A mention must however go to the large Pizza had in the lane the night before and the stunning desert at the Ramblers Inn down the road. We will be back and back again to this delightful place.

Room tip: Fantastic Location, brilliant views of Kinder Scout, great proximity to good Bars and Food.

Well you were in and out like a mosquito on a mission! We're very glad that your short stay gave you such pleasure, and that you had good walking weather for your ramble onto Kinder Scout. Do hope the visit to Chatsworth on your way home was a success. Many thanks and see you again soon. Tommy

If you're into the outdoors and want total serenity this place is perfect. at the end of the valley, no traffic going passed, amazing views, and world-class hiking immediately from your front door. We stayed as a big group in two tents, cooked and ate together, slept amazingly on the beds, but with the awesome feeling of sleeping under canvas and hearing the stream outside. Sitting in the tent in the evening with the lamps and fire going was one of the best experiences with my friends for a long time. best weekend i have had in years. Tommy, the owner, and his family just cant do enough for you. Wood was chopped and delivered, restaurants recommended, you name it these guys had an idea. i cant wait to come back.

Room tip: Err...its not a hotel its camping in permanent tents.

Thank you Nick for your kind words. You were a stalwart bunch in some pretty dreadful Peak District weather, so I'm glad you had some great Peak experiences despite the rain. I do hope we'll see you all again. Best wishes, Tommy

We had a really lovely family weekend break at The Gathering. Six of us staying in one of the tents - 2 parents, 2 grown kids and respective wives/husbands. We wanted to do something a little different, rather than stay in a normal holiday let, but as our parents are in their 60s, traditional camping wasn't really going to work. The tents at The Gathering are spacious and well equipped, with comfy sofas, real beds and hot running water - plus a full bathroom. You still have the feel of being under canvas, but can keep the tent cosy with the wood burning stove and aren't sleeping on the floor. Cooking on the stove is a lot of fun too.
The owners (Tommy and Kirsty) are lovely - welcoming and warm and open - they are very keen to share this beautiful corner of the country with their guests. We really enjoyed meeting them and hearing about the history of the area and the farm, plus their plans for hosting events on site (for which it will be a perfect location) with the tents and the barn conversion.
The location is lovely - beautiful countryside and plenty of walks for all abilities close by.
Even though the area is a walkers dream with miles of paths and hikes to explore, The Gathering is sufficiently off the beaten track to be totally relaxing if thats what you prefer. I loved being able to disconnect from the world for a few days.
Highly recommended - we would love to come back again sometime.

Room tip: I recommend the tents for a comfortable but quirkily unusual stay.

It was such a pleasure meeting you all and we're delighted you all left feeling more relaxed - we were also intrigued by your 'lebanese lamb' dish and would love the recipe for our guests' woodstove cookbook if you can dig it out! Welcome back any season Ant - thank you for your very kind and informative review. Tommy

I rarely get around to leaving reviews, even for places that I have loved - but I really feel people should know about The Gathering at Edale, especially as it is so new. What a fantastic place, with lovely owners who couldn't have been nicer and more accommodating.

My wife and I stayed here in June with some friends and our toddler, and it was the perfect place for our getaway in the Peak District.

The tents themselves are lovely - so comfortable and cozy, with a nice kitchen, living room and dining area where you can enjoy evenings of food cooked on the gas hob or the wood burning stove/oven. For those of you wanting a little more comfort than regular camping (just as my 7-month pregnant wife did) the bathrooms are lovely, with a fully plumbed-in toilet, bath and shower. Best of all though are the beds - AMAZING - with all of our group agreeing they were the most comfortable we'd ever slept in.

The location in Edale is also great, at the end of a country lane that begins behind the famous pub (about a 5 min walk away) so you can also pop for a pint or to the shop. We woke each morning to the sound of a stream, birdsong and lambs in the nearby fields.

Tommy and his family were also fantastic and so generous - nothing was too much trouble. Hot croissants magically appeared at breakfast time, and on our last morning he even shared some of the local black pudding when he learned we were making a fry-up.

I'd recommend this place to anyone wanting a quiet getaway with a bit of comfort. Simply wonderful.

Thanks Ben - we really enjoyed meeting you all and I'm glad we converted your wife to 'camping', Gathering style! If anyone is wondering, the mattresses are by Hypnos, the Evesham model - they really are awesome, and not crazy expensive compared to others out there. Do hope we see you back again soon. Tommy
