“Treat after a walk in the Peaks”
Reviewed 14 April 2014

We thought that we would treat ourselves after our guided day's walking on Kinder Scout so booked Losehill as it seemed the best option locally. When we arrived there was no member of staff around but a trip to the bar soon sorted that and the lounge was comfortable. We chose the taster menu and my husband had the matching wines but as I was driving one glass was my choice. The conservatory where we ate was pleasant and the atmosphere was relaxed and busy but the food was not memorable and the wines average. We enjoyed each course but nothing stood out although for the price it was value for money.

“Excellent food in a charming environment”
Reviewed 11 April 2014

My wife and I dined here on two nights and thoroughly enjoyed the meal both times. On the first night we had their 7 course tasting menu, which seemed somewhat daunting at first - Seven courses, how would we be able to stand when we had finished? However, the portions were very small, but we certainly did not feel hungry at the end. Each course was beautifully presented and extremely tasty. The second night we dined off their normal menu and chose full portions of one or two of the 'tasters' we'd had the night before. Once again, we enjoyed an excellent meal. However, if you are one of those people who work on the basis of 'Never mind the quality let's have the quantity', then this is not for you.

“What ever has happened to this restaurant?”
Reviewed 10 April 2014

I visited Losehill Hall when it was new and it was very attractive, in a beautiful setting. We visit the area a few times a year and tried to book a table for sunday lunch but it was always full. In February we thought we were in luck and managed to get a table. Almost every aspect of the visit was awful.
On arrival a lot of people were waiting by reception (it's also the hotel reception) and there were no staff there. When someone did come they said there had been a small accident which they had to deal with. Fair enough, but shouldn't there have been back up?
We were eventually taken to a sitting area to wait, still clinging to our coats. A waiter appeared but barely spoke. We ordered drinks and then food. After a time we were shown to our table, still carrying our coats, again the waiter was silent and distant.
The first course was served, again silently and distinctly coldly. Bread was plonked down on the table in the same manner. We were never asked if we needed anything. The restaurant was less than half full, which by this stage didn't surprise us.
The main course for three of us was roast beef. The waiter didn't offer any condiments and had disappeared. After a few minutes we could ask for mustard and horseradish. Again after a few minutes we got just mustard, no chance to ask why. The beef was the next disappointment. It was inedible, we chewed and chewed but had to give up.
Eventually the waiter came to take the plates, we told him about the meat , again no comment. ( we did say we didn't want another plate of it but that he should tell the chef anyway)
By this stage we just wanted the meal to be over, the atmosphere and food were so bad. We ate dessert and then went to pay. We were 6th in the queue at reception so even paying wasn't easy ! We told the receptionist about the meat, she said she would tell the chef.
When we got into the car we all let out a huge sigh of relief on being out of there.
We were not guests we were an unwelcome presence.

After a couple of days I wrote to the hotel with roughly the same information as above. This was largely because we love the area and of course it would be wonderful if a business in such a beautiful setting could continue to flourish. We couldn't believe that the management would find this situation acceptable.
The owner replied briefly that he was sorry, would look into it and get back to me.
Almost 2 months later he still hasn't. I sent a short mail reminding him but still no response.

This is so contrary to the other reviews here we really don't understand what has happened but to get no explanation from the management perhaps indicates that they have lost direction.

“fabulous setting. very helpful staff”
Reviewed 11 March 2014

i go to the hotel for spa treatments and lunch and am always relaxed and happy when I leave.
The views are lovely at the foot of Win Hill and the walking trails are right on the doorstep.
The dining room/orangery takes in the wonderful views and the food is good quality

“Delicious!”
Reviewed 21 February 2014

We had an overnight stay with the tasting menu. None of the courses disappointed and the portions were spot on. In our opinion, this was Michelin star standard! We will be back!
