“What an enjoyable place to be.”

If you what to be in a lovely quiet place with great food, kind helpful staff, lovely views and good Spa facilities this is the place to be. The beauty treatments are good value and are all a relaxing and pleasant experience.
You are a 10 minute drive away from interesting places such as the Blue John mine and Castleton with lovely country walks to take, where ever you go.
Beakfast is lovely and everything is freshly cooked and brought to the table. No evil do it yourself toaster to be seen. The evening meals were delicious and there was plenty of choice.
The only gripe I had was that there was no shower in the bathroom of the family room only one attached to the taps - not a good experience and very 70's. Sad because the bathroom itself was lovely.

We arrived for a weekends walking and the hotel is ideally placed to climb losehill and on to Mam Tor. Returned after the first days walking and checked in looking forward to chilling out in the spa.

The room was good with plenty space and a large well equipped bathroom.

The spa facilities were a bit of disappointment with a small pool which was cold. the hot tub was outside but wasn't in use and a smallish sauna.

The restaurant was pleasant but a bit 'nouveau' for my tastes, particularly after a days hillwalking I was looking forward to something a bit more substantial than fancy.

Breakfast was spot on however and the views from the restaurant fantastic.

Overall, left feeling it was a nice enough place but the 'spa' aspect didn't live up to expectations, particularly after spending the best part of £300 on one night away.

The location of the hotel is lovely with a lovely lawned area to sit and enjoy the views. The hotel was a little smaller than I expected from the pictures on the internet but with nice/clean rooms and well run. The highlight of the hotel is by far the restaurant. Very good service, elegant setting and fantastic food at a very reasonable price.

One thing I would change is the carpet which runs from the spa to the outdoor hot tub - there is nothing worse than feeling soggy carpet under bare feet.

This is a lovely hotel in a gorgeous location. We stayed here in June 2013 on the day of our 25th wedding anniversary, as a treat to celebrate the occasion with a nice night away, being pampered. The room was nice and sufficient for a one night stay, but nothing special. We had a meal in the restaurant in the evening & the food was really good. There is a good choice of food all with a modern take, with such things as 'chocolate soil' & 'tarragon foam' popping up. Breakfast featured the traditional full English breakfast and that was lovely. Given that this was a special anniversary (and the actual day of the anniversary itself) and not just any old anniversary, the only slight disappointment was that there was no acknowledgement from any member of staff, reception when checking in / the restaurant at night / a card in the room even, of this fact, even though we had specifically advised them at the time of booking that it was for a special occasion. Don't get me wrong, it is not obligatory for a hotel to do anything special at all, you're paying for a service and so long as they deliver that service then they have done their job, but still, it is the little touches that can make a special time even more memorable and sadly they missed a gilt edged opportunity to add that little extra touch.

We stayed for one night following our friends' wedding and reception, which was held here.

We stayed in Room 26 - which another reviewer has said was hot, and I agree.
The room was hot, and there was an omnipresent hum from some nearby machinery. This made for quite a disturbed night's sleep. If we were staying longer, I would have complained too.

The room itself was lovely, with a fantastic walk-in bathroom, accessed by folding double doors. Oddly, the doors had no handles on the inside, so closing them for some privacy was quite difficult from inside. There were fluffy bathrobes, slippers, very large fluffy towels and plenty of Shower gel, shampoo and conditioner in lovely bottles for guests use.
The bed was large, possibly super-king sized, and very comfortable.

Breakfast was in the orangery - and the views from there were spectacular, however that room was also hot. I can imagine it is unbearable in summer. The groom ended up having to open a couple of windows himself!

As it was the morning after our friend's wedding, the tables were returned to the wedding breakfast layout from the previous day, but without the seating plan!
We were just told to find a space where we could. I'm not one for small-talk at the best of times, and especially not over breakfast, so I thought this setup was odd.

That said, the 'Derbyshire breakfast' itself was outstanding, with lots of tea, coffee and freshly squeezed juice (complete with bits) on offer.
Orders were taken quickly, but there was a long wait 35-40 mins before it was served. I was just about to complain when it suddenly arrived.

Room Tip: As has been said before - avoid Room 26 if possible.

We arrived at Losehill house the day after our wedding, having made the reservation almost 6 months in advance in order to have a relaxing start to our honeymoon. Staff were friendly on arrival but we were disappointed on seeing our room to discover that it was looking out onto a staff car park at the back of the hotel as well as being between the ground and first floor which meant that people could see in. We discovered we were not in range of the wifi which was disappointing as we wanted to relax in our room and look at pictures from our wedding etc, but instead had to sit in the lounge to do this. We felt the room was uncomfortably warm on our arrival and this continued to be the case over the course of the evening, as well as there being an irritating humming noise right outside the window. We later discovered this was because our room was above the boiler room. We requested to change the room but were told the hotel was full. We asked for a fan due to the warmth in the room and this was provided but no apology was offered and I was initially told it was just warm because the heating had been on, despite our radiators being off in the room when we arrived and we had been there for several hours. After this disappointing start to the stay we ate in the restaurant and could not recommend it highly enough, both the food and service were excellent. However, on returning to the room after dinner we felt the warmth in our room even more. We had to sleep with the fan on and windows open but were still very uncomfortably warm and slept very badly. This also meant we could hear cars coming in and out of the staff car park in the morning and the humming noise starting up again, followed by someone using what sounded like an electric saw in a workshop at one side of the car park. We went back to reception again as soon as we were up, by which time we were exhausted and upset. Our request to move rooms was agreed to immediately this time as most people had checked out. It was only at this point that we were told the room was above the boiler room but still offered no apology despite the fact I was nearly in tears. Had another room not been available we had decided we would check out early, which is not something I’ve considered before and I very rarely complain. While waiting for the new room to be ready we used the spa facilities, which were very nice but small considering the hotel markets itself as a spa hotel, for example there were only 6 seats by the pool. We had planned to use the outdoor hot tub but a sign went up shortly after we arrived to say it was out of order. We asked when it would be available and were told it was actually working fine, but we just needed to stay off the decking which was being varnished. We decided not to use it in the end due the strong smell of the varnish and the presence of the man painting it as this did not make for a very romantic prospect. Our new room was very nice, a huge improvement on the first and we had another excellent meal in the restaurant on the second night. We paid our bill before going to bed on the second night and were asked about our stay. I reiterated how disappointed we were with the first room but was still met with no apology, just a blank expression. We left very early the next morning and were provided with an excellent packed lunch.
Overall our visit was a very mixed experience, as while we thought the restaurant was absolutely excellent, our experience with the first room was very disappointing to say the least – especially considering the price paid as a treat for our honeymoon and I did make the hotel aware this was the case on booking. Generally the service at the hotel was polite and efficient and our requests were met where possible but there was a lack of attempt to apologise for the negative aspects of our stay or compensate us for this in any way. Based on this we would not stay at the hotel again as it failed to meet it’s brief for us in offering a relaxing time. However, we would visit the restaurant if in the area.

Room Tip: Do not get room 26! Room 4 was very nice.

We really enjoyed our stay at Losehill. I booked in for a spa treatment but it wasn't quite what I expected. I asked the therapist if she could make some changes and she was so lovely and helpful. I ended up with the perfect personalised treatment - thanks Chloe.
The food was pretty posh! A nice treat.
Highly recommend this venue
