We were coming up to the area to attend a Golden Wedding Anniversary 'afternoon tea'. We extended our stay to make a long weekend and booked The Samuel Fox. We were so glad we found this small hotel/restaurant. The room was light and airy tho' a little noisy with traffic first thing in the morning as it overlooked the road - but with beautiful views beyond which more than made up for that. The food was absolutely superb, James - the owner/chef really has a great ability. Gareth was brilliant - one minute being one of the best front of house people we have come across, and the next helping us to know where to go for great walks or ice cream. Sabrina was really good too, we just did not see her so much. We would definitely go back and highly recommend this place. H & R

We stayed at the Samuel Fox Country Inn this weekend. Everyone made our stay a delight. Sabrina & Gareth are fantastic in the restaurant and bar, as well as helping with information about where to go, what wines to drink and so much more. James the chef, what can I say about the food, it is to die for. In fact, I've never enjoyed food more. Tremendous!!!! We cant wait to go back. We would recommend to stay for dinner, bed and breakfast, as an absolute must. Also, make sure you visit Chatsworth house, a must see.........

We have just got back from a two night break with friends at this hotel. The hotel is in a small village which has good access to lots of different places in the peak district so makes an ideal base. The rooms are very clean and have complimentary chocolates, grapes ,biscuits, sherry, tea and coffee. There is a hairdryer and an iron and ironing board in all the rooms. We stayed in room 2 at the front of the hotel and although it is on a main road we had the windows open all night and were not disturbed by any noise from traffic. The beds are extremely comfortable and we had 2 of the best nights sleep in quite a while.
The staff are very friendly and helpful.
We ate at the hotel on the first night of our stay and were not disappointed with the food. There were 6 of us in our group, we all have 3 course meals and not one of us had a bad word to say, in fact we all thoroughly enjoyed it.
I would definitely recommend this hotel and would stay here again when in the area.

Room Tip: Room 1 and 2 are at the front but we didn't have a problem with any noise from the road. 3 and...

Just returned from a two night stay with 2 other couples, had a wonderful, relaxing time. Food was exquisite and amazing, rooms were beautiful and spotless. Didn't hear any road noise even though we slept with the window open. Although it may seem a little pricey this is money well spent on such a special treat - as with most things in life - you get what you pay for and you certainly get it here! Thanks everyone for a fabulous time. Highly recommend.

Myself and my wife stayed here for 2 x nights on a KGB deal and it really was an amazing deal. We both enjoyed an exceptional 3 course meal including a reasonable bottle of C-S\Merlot, all in for £48.00. The following night we ate at a pub in Castleton, we had one drink each and 2 courses of very average food and coincidentally also paid £48.00. There was NO comparison between the 2 meals, our advice would be to eat at the Samuel Fox during your stay. The cooked breakfast was also superb, the best I have ever had.

There is a very strong focus on Customer Service at The S.F, unfussy but ensuring you had everything you needed from complimentary chocolates\sherry to the loan of a walking map.

We will definitely be staying there again, however we would ask for a room at the rear which is just our personal preference.

My wife and I decided to try the Samuel Fox having never visitied before. We shall certainly be back. There is a very nice ambience about the place, a relaxed atmosphere. I ordered the Iron Steak not really knowing what to expect (never heard of the cut before) and it was one of the best steaks of recent memory. Not an ounce of fat on it and there was no trace of it left on my plate at the end. I ordered it medium-rare and it was perfectly cooked with a pepper seasoning. Superb. We will be back!

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Samuel Fox Country Inn is situated in the pretty village of Bradwell in the heart of the Hope Valley in Derbyshire's peak District National park and offers breathtaking views from the bar and restaurant. The building underwent a full refurbishment in July 2008 and is modern and stylish while still managaing to retain its rustic charm. All of its rooms are delux double rooms with en-suite bathrooms; they have at least 26 inch flat screen televisions;internet access and coffee and tea facilities. In October 2012 the Inn was acquired by new manager and head chef, James Duckett in his first pub venture after an early career in the kitchens of fine dining restaurants in the UK, France, Netherlands and Australia and, more recently running his own restaurants in Devon and Andalucia. James is passionate about food and uses, wherever possible, good locally sourced, seasonal ingredients to create mouthwatering dishes, for his 'blackboard' bar snacks and a la carte lunch and dinner menus alike. With two AA rosettes, fine food is a special feature of the Samuel Fox. However, there's also a very warm welcome awaiting those wishing to just enjoy a drink in comfortable and convivial surroundings. ... more   less
