“Samuel Fox - Could not fault a thing”
Reviewed 21 April 2014 via mobile

Four of us reserved a table for lunch on Easter Monday. A warm welcome awaited us. The food was fresh and absolutely delicious. The transfer from a Public House to a restaurant has been successfully implemented. The staff were pleasant and efficient and we could not fault a thing. No more to be said.

At the risk of repeating other reviews, this simply was the ultimate weekend break. Everything was perfect from start to finish. The room was luxuriously comfortable and the welcoming touches others have mentioned made all the difference, especially after a long drive. The food was exceptional on both evenings complemented by an extremely well chosen wine list. The location in the middle of the Hope Valley means that views from the rooms are fabulous and it's a perfect base for some spectacular walks. However, what really makes the Samuel Fox exceptional is the staff: absolutely nothing is too much trouble and for this reason alone, it will be worth returning again and again. We couldn't fault any aspect of our stay and are already planning our return visit.

Room Tip: Room 4 is on the back...not such stunning views but away from the road so exceptionally quiet.

We have just come back from a lovely two night, weekend stay at the Samuel Fox. I have to say it was one of the best short stays we have ever had. The rooms were spacious, comfortable and nicely decorated; we both had a good night's sleep, on each of the nights, as the beds, pillows and duvet were so comfortable. There were some lovely touches also, including some complementary decanter of Sherry, tea, coffee, fruit teas, grapes, chocolates and biscuits, in your room on arrival. The restaurant, communal areas and rooms were spotlessly clean. We ate in the restaurant on the first night and the food was that good, we booked in for our evening meal on the second night also. I honestly cannot recommend the food enough, everything on our plates was delicious! To top it all off, the staff were fantastic; they were very friendly, accommodating and helpful. I would like to say a big thank you to all the staff at the Samuel Fox, for making our stay so special. I can't wait to come back.

A 4 bedroom gastro pug in the stunning Derbyshire Dales. The meals were wonderful, dinner and breakfast. Dinner was memorable. The room was of a 5 star standard, including a welcome mini carafe of sherry. The staff could not have been more helpful.

A great big thank you to James and the team. We went for a weekend stay 25th-27th October 2013.
The weekend was wonderful from arrival to leaving, the staff were lovely. The secret supper on the friday evening was fantastic!! So good we immediately booked for dinner the following evening.
This also was excellent. The accommodation so nice clean and welcoming. Especially the sherry and chocolates.
The scenery was lovely and as it was my first visit to The Peak District I fell in love with the colours.
I have delayed putting on my review as I wanted to keep this gem our secret. Yes James we will
be back!

Stayed one night at this excellent country hotel while visiting the Peak District. From arriving until leaving the service was first class. The bedroom was very comfortable & clean.Everything we needed was on hand & the carafe of sherry was 'a nice touch' too. All the staff were very friendly & helpful. Our meal was of the highest standard & presentation was first class. Well done to you all at the Samuel Fox--we will definitely recommend you to all our friends! We will be back to enjoy your hospitality again, for sure. Thank you to you all for such a fantastic stay.

We were so impressed when we stayed at the end of August that we decided to return to see in the New Year at the Samuel Fox. We were not disappointed! The food at every meal was excellent and the service from Gareth and Sabrina was superb. James the owner is a great chef.
We are looking forward to when we can make our third visit! H & R

Room Tip: Front rooms have lovely view but a small amount of traffic noise.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Samuel Fox Country Inn is situated in the pretty village of Bradwell in the heart of the Hope Valley in Derbyshire's peak District National park and offers breathtaking views from the bar and restaurant. The building underwent a full refurbishment in July 2008 and is modern and stylish while still managaing to retain its rustic charm. All of its rooms are delux double rooms with en-suite bathrooms; they have at least 26 inch flat screen televisions;internet access and coffee and tea facilities. In October 2012 the Inn was acquired by new manager and head chef, James Duckett in his first pub venture after an early career in the kitchens of fine dining restaurants in the UK, France, Netherlands and Australia and, more recently running his own restaurants in Devon and Andalucia. James is passionate about food and uses, wherever possible, good locally sourced, seasonal ingredients to create mouthwatering dishes, for his 'blackboard' bar snacks and a la carte lunch and dinner menus alike. With two AA rosettes, fine food is a special feature of the Samuel Fox. However, there's also a very warm welcome awaiting those wishing to just enjoy a drink in comfortable and convivial surroundings. ... more   less
