“Delightful location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 August 2014

Just off the A6 Bakewell to Buxton road
Ashford in the Water is a charming village in the Peak District National Park.
The hotel has a delightful location on the river, the staff welcoming, our room was spotlessly clean and the breakfast was delicious.
Monsal Head, Chatsworth Hse, and Blue John Caven are all a short drive away as are the lovely towns of Bakewell and Buxton.
Riverside House Hotel is an ideal place to stay when exploring the area.

we booked 3 nights at short notice and arrived to a very pleasant warm welcome. The hotel is rather quaint and old fashioned but delightful for it's very individuality. gorgeous (if rather small) room on the ground floor with patio doors leading onto gardens. we had to ask for some chairs to be taken out of room as there would have been no space at all but the sweet little touches such as sherry and fresh fruit on arrival (refreshed every day), real coffee and fresh milk made up for the space issue! delicious food but tad pricey at £45 per head for dinner without wine so we ate in the village on subsequent evenings which was wonderful. would definitely return but would ask for a different room

My husband and I stopped at the Riverside for an impromptu afternoon tea . The Hotel was busy as a wedding function was taking place . We ordered the afternoon tea including smoked salmon sandwiches , egg mayo sandwiches , scones with clotted cream and jam . The sandwiches came with a lovely little mixed salad with balsamic dressing and a very generous helping of gourmet crisps . We were provided with masses of sandwiches (far more than I expected ) ! We had warm scones to follow with loads of clotted cream and jam , one each but the scones were very large and they were delicious ! I am frankly baffled by the reviewer from Devon who thought that their afternoon tea was overpriced and insufficient in quantity ! Our bill came to £25 which I thought was a bargain . The staff were delightful despite being very busy with the wedding and I could not recommend the Riverside House Hotel highly enough . My husband and I will definitely return hopefully for a weekend break .

We decided on a two night stay in the dales, and picked this hotel, for its location, and the trip advisor comments, we were not dissapointed, the food was simply excellent, we tried the steak, the duck , and the lamb, all excellent, the room was ground floor with french doors to the drive and the river, we both slept well in a very large soft double bed. the price of 230 pounds for the room ,dinner and breakfast was we thought about right. downsides( there always are some,) no newspapers could be arranged on arrival? i object to being woken up by the garden contractor at 8.15 am , and the drinks are a rip off, would i go back, Certainly.

Room Tip: I would go for the ground floor with french doors to the garden

I booked a room for a romantic time with my wife, on arrival was grate looked fantastic,we went for a meal at 7.00pm the menu was nothing special,my wife had a risotto with mushrooms i had raviolo with lobster.the mushrooms test like coming from a tin,my raviolo was just ok, for a main we both had a fillet steak mine was over cooked and diden't enjoyed at all,we gave up the dessert and gone for coffe not good either.
Cost us £285.00 this with the discount if wasen't would have been over £300.00.wath a rip off.

We had gone to Bakewell Show today on the way back we stopped for afternoon tea at this gorgeous hotel. My friend had stayed here last weekend with her husband and said how nice it was and the setting where it was is lovely. Its right on the river wye which is lovely. Would definitely recommend going to this cute little village and either staying or going for afternoon tea. the waitress was very friendly and the food and drink was lovely.

Room Tip: excellent rooms on the ground floor which open out to a patio.

My husband & I celebrated our Silver Wedding Anniversary with a large party of family and friends for Sunday lunch last weekend. The organisation prior to the event was handled brilliantly and everything ran very smoothly on the day. We had our Wedding reception at the hotel and so it was the obvious choice for this occasion and we were not dissappointed. Both the food and the service were excellent and a fabulous time was had by all.
Would highly recommend for this sort of occasion.
