We spent a week at Townsend and as the weather was as perfect as the cottage, had a great time exploring the towns of Bakewell, Buxton, Matlock Bath and Castleton. Walked up and down hills, down into caves, uphill by gondola at the Heights of Abraham and enjoyed the magnificent house and gardens of Chatsworth. And each day we returned to our home away from home at Townsend. Lindsay had thought of everything and the lemon cake was the best.
Beautiful cottage. Have stayed here 3 times. Yummy cake & eggs on arrival. Friendly owner. Cant wait to stay here again for our next trip to the Peak Distract.
We stayed for 4 nights in May - the cottage is absolutely lovely with so many thoughtful touches that make it a home from home. Very peaceful location with access to great walks.
We spent May Day weekend in Townsend Cottage and the peaceful village of Sheldon. The cottage provided everything we needed, toiletries, herbs, fairy liquid etc maps and even dressing gowns. The lemon cake and eggs were an extra bonus! We were able to make use of the patio table and chairs due to the beautiful weather ( sun on the patio all day until early evening). We walked to Bakewell and Ashford in the Water from the Cottage. Sheldon is centrally located to visit different areas of the Peak District, Mam Tor and Dovedale is about 30 minutes drive away. We ate in the local two evening and both times had a lovely meal.
Our stay was ruined by an unresolved complaint, that led to a rather unpleasant experience which we would prefer not to repeat.
Lovely little cottage and really well equipped
Lyndsey the owner just next door so available if you need her . We stayed for three nights and wished it was longer ! The village pub serves lovely food which is obviously cooked from scratch on the premises so well worth a visit . We took our two dogs and enjoyed walks from the numerous footpaths in the village . We would most certainly stay again .
