We visited this B & B this weekend for our wedding anniversary. It's a beautiful place!
Gilly and John were very welcoming hosts who immediately made us feel at home and that nothing was too much trouble. They are very knowledgable about the area too and gave some great tips. Although the property is on the A6, the traffic can barely be heard as the windows are triple glazed. Fresh air is pumped into the rooms so they are not stuffy either. Absolutely immaculate with everything you could possibly want and need and the breakfasts are amazing. We will definitely book to stay there again if we are ever in the area. Thanks so much!

I agree with previous reviewers - the freshly cooked breakfasts with local ingredients are a treat, the couple who run the B&B are the most hospitable and helpful you can imagine. There's fresh milk in the communal fridge for your tea and the rooms and bathrooms are immaculate, as pictured on the website. Very comfortable beds and beautiful antique furniture. My only one very small comment is that it would be nice if the guest living room were more comfortable and welcoming. The funiture in there - in the words of another reviewer I agreed with - did not encourage relaxing. However such a communal space is not by any means normally found in B&Bs so that's only a tiny point. For the price of a room (around £100) this is a non-issue.

Room Tip: One of the rooms isn't an en-suite but has a bathroom across the corridor.

My wife and I have just returned from a wonderful 2 night stay at the Cottage. Upon arrival John helped to carry out luggage and proceeded to give a very helpful insight into the local attractions. Our room was beautifully presented with nice little touches setting it apart from your average accommodation.

John and Gilly were fantastic hosts, friendly and informative without ever being intrusive. The breakfast was very nice, both beautifully presented and a good choice to cater for all tastes. We fed the trout in the River at the bottom of the garden. This was a wonderful experience, something I would recommend to anyone. The Cottage is an ideal location for visiting Bakewell and Chatsworth House. My wife and I would definitely stay at River Cottage again and I would recommend to anyone who wants beautiful accommodation in a picturesque part of the country.

Beautiful surroundings, restful environment, comfortable well equipped and spotlessly maintained rooms. John and Gilly were excellent hosts - friendly and helpful. Hearty breakfast with good choices cooked to order. This was an annual meet up with my cousins and spouses and we were unanimous in our agreement that our stay at River Cottage was thoroughly enjoyable and that we would be happy to return again.

Room Tip: Our room (2) was comfortable and very well equipped, and had luxurious en-suite but with shower and...

Stayed for two nights as a couple. The bedroom and bathroom were both clean and well furnished, the latter including all the extra items easily forgotten on a trip away. Breakfast was excellent.

The hosts were very friendly and accommodating indeed, nothing seemed too much trouble. A very enjoyable stay indeed.

This was our third visit to River Cottage and one of the best short breaks my husband and I have had! Gilly and John are so welcoming and it was lovely to be back in the stunning surroundings, with the river at the bottom of the pretty garden and the immaculate bedroom (with Laura Ashley furnishings) and a great big shower! The breakfasts are fantastic, made with locally sourced produce and cooked to perfection... and the homemade jam is just excellent (particularly the Raspberry Jam - I could have devoured the whole pot in one sitting!!) We had three great days; cycling the Monsal Trail, visiting Bakewell and Chatsworth. The White Lion pub at Great Longstone (just a five minute drive away) is excellent and well worth a visit. The Hassop Station Cafe was also a great find whilst cycling the Monsal Trail! We really cannot recommend River Cottage highly enough, it's a fantastic boutique bed and breakfast with excellent hosts who go out of their way to ensure you have a great holiday. We look forward to returning next year!

My husband and I spent a wonderful three nights at River Cottage. We have stayed in many bed and breakfasts over our 30 years of marriage, but I have to say, this was the cleanest b&b we've ever stayed in. John and Gilly are absolutely the most welcoming hosts! Breakfast each morning was fabu! We were within walking distance of a couple of pubs as well, so if you have a few too many pints, no worries. If we ever go back to England, we will definitely stay at River Cottage again!!
