“An Ideal Base to Explore thr Peak District”

This is certainly no ordinary B&B. From the moment we arrived at the door we were treated like a member of the family by Gilly and John. Our room was just perfect with many extras which added to the comfort of our stay. The breakfasts were a highlight with something for all tastes. Nothing was too much trouble for our charming hosts. We shall be back. If Trip Advisor did six circles this would be the first ! Highly recommended.

Room Tip: All the rooms provide outstanding comfort - difficult to chose.

We booked River Cottage as a romantic break while we attended a friends wedding and we weren't disappointed. We were met by the wonderful Gilly on arrival, who was a great host and immediately offered us a complementary drink in the garden after our journey, which was hugely appreciated! The bedroom was lovely, a very comfortable bed and an amazing rainfall walk in shower which st you up for the day. Despite Gilly's protests that she is not a chef breakfast was lovely and was accompanied by home made bread and a range of interesting jams and we both recommend the smoked salmon and scrambled eggs. Although the accommodation is beautiful it is definitely the owners who make it, nothing is too much trouble for them and they take the time to stop for a chat making for a really pleasant stay. I have no hesitation in recommending anyone to stay here, leave plenty of time to enjoy the garden and the local village and definitely visit the local cake shop! We shall certainly be staying here again when next in the area.

This was an excellent base for a few days exploring the Peak District. The location is five minutes walk to two good pubs, which serve great food, in the picturesque village of Ashford-in-the-Water, and is a five minute drive to Bakewell, for a wider range of facilities.

The B&B is tastefully decorated, with genuine thought being taken over catering to guests. The breakfast is superb, and the gardens by the river are a lovely spot. However, a couple of niggles stopped us giving this a top rating. Though the location is amazing, there is noise from the road, as the property adjoins the A6. Also, the check in times do not start until 4 p.m, yet check out is 10.30 a.m, which seems a little harsh. Payment is also cash or cheque only, so make sure you aren't relying on cards. Don't let these little things stop you from coming here and enjoying a wonderful stay though.

Room Tip: The room with a separate private bathroom seemed to be the nicest, with a dual aspect over the river...

This is far and away the best facility I have ever stayed in. It's well located in the district, perfect for those who want to do a Pride and Prejudice tour. The rooms are BEAUTIFULLY and so thoughtfully put together. Literally anything you could have wanted is there.
The owners are very very kind and helpful and cook and amazing breakfast. They are flexible and always happy to advise you on where you should go/eat etc.
They were even willing to cater for me (gluten free)
A truly enjoyable visit.

Had one night here on our way back from the New Forest. I can't find words to describe this tranquil oasis. This is one place we will certainly be visiting again. The hosts Gilly and John were exceptionally welcoming and friendly. Nothing is too much trouble and they have thought of everything to make your stay extremely comfortable. Breakfast was amazing, home made bread and jams along with locally sourced bacon, sausage and black pudding. The walk to the village is lovely. We ate in The Bulls Head, the food was very good.

We stayed at river cottage for 2 nights on 6th Aug .On arrival we was met by john and gilly , what excellent hosts . The bedroom was very comfortable and clean with a very modern en-suit .
The choice at breakfast was excellent and the full english is a must .The river which runs at the bottom of the garden makes it a nice relaxing area to sit in the evening and feed the trout . Overall an excellent stay and would highly recommend this B&B .

We stayed at river cottage in July for 2 nights. Gilly was a excellent host and offered drinks when arrived after some major delays on the motorway and could see my Partner was Distressed! The room was very large and very clean with very big bathroom with walk in Rain Shower. We also had a fan in the room to help keep it cool in this hot weather we was having at the time. The B&B is just off the A6 but after 6:30 in the evening the road the rooms are all on is very Quiet! My Partner and i had very good night sleeps here in very Comfortable bed! The breakfast is excellent in the Cosy breakfast room with a very large choice of cook to order hot breakfast all with local Source Produce or a good choice of cereal etc. The B&B is great Location for exploring the local area and great choice of pubs in the area, Recommend the White Lion in Great Longstore who Managed to fit us in on a Saturday night Even though we had not booked a table. Great service and food! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and wish it was Longer and I will be staying there again!

Room Tip: The Superior Double Room is Worth every Penny!
