Nothing is left unthought of at this warm, welcoming, pristine cottage. Gilly and John are delightful and will anticipate what you want before you need it. Pros. We arrived without a car and without warning that one of us was a veggie and nothing was too much trouble.

We stayed here mid-September and cannot recommend it too highly. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay which seemed to be over too quickly. Ideal location for the Peaks the Monsail Trail and of course Chatsworth. The owners are lovely people who made us feel as home from the first minute we arrived until when we left.

We had a lovely 1 night stay at River Cottage in late September and just wish we'd have been able to stay longer. We had a very warm welcome from John who showed us our room, the breakfast room downstairs and the helpful collection of information and maps for walks and local places of interest.

Everything about our room was lovely, from the large wardrobe to the beautiful chaise longue: all the furniture had a gorgeous almost-antique feel to it - everything has obviously been carefully selected and well maintained. The bathroom was lovely and modern too.

The breakfast provided by Gilly (and John) in the morning was absolutely amazing! They have a great selection for the cooked option to follow cereals, and I would just echo the other reviews that the homemade jams are really something special!

The B&B is really easy to find, just 5 minutes from Bakewell and walking distance from Ashford. We will definitely be returning soon - hopefully when the weather is much better so we can enjoy the lovely garden and sit on the patio by the river.

My husband I stayed for 3 nights and were warmly welcomed by John and Gilly. Nothing is too much trouble and we found the accommodation perfect in really pretty surroundings.
We really appreciated the little touches such as finding a torch in the room to use when venturing down the country lanes at night, spare umbrellas and well thought out extras in the bathroom such as hairspray.
The breakfast was really tasty and we were given an unlimited supply of toast and coffee on top of the cooked breakfast until we were fit to burst. Homemade jams - beautiful! A great way to start the day if you are doing plently of walking.
Will definitely return in the future.

We stayed for 2 nights in this beautiful bed and breakfast. We can honestly say it is the best one we have stayed in. John and Gilly have a wonderful home. It was just a shame for us that the weather was awful - but this gives us a chance to visit the Peak District again, and we will most definitely stay at River Cottage, and we will recommend to all our friends and family as well. A must!!

this is a very well appointed B&B and we were well received by John and Gilly who were attentive without being over the top. Other reviews had mentioned the noise from the road but we were not bothered by it and slept with the window open (the window opened over the minor road, not the A6)

Excellent breakfast, particularly John's toast!

Good recomendations of the local pubs to eat.

Only minor criticism was that the shower flow was a bit weak, although it did the job!

This is certainly no ordinary B&B. From the moment we arrived at the door we were treated like a member of the family by Gilly and John. Our room was just perfect with many extras which added to the comfort of our stay. The breakfasts were a highlight with something for all tastes. Nothing was too much trouble for our charming hosts. We shall be back. If Trip Advisor did six circles this would be the first ! Highly recommended.

Room Tip: All the rooms provide outstanding comfort - difficult to chose.
