Just come back from a weekend in Copenhagen with my wife (left the kids at home with the Grandparents - yey!!)
We really enjoyed our stay in Copenhagen - and the Avenue Hotel contributed to this in no small part - that is not to say it is perfect.
Lets start with the good points:
Staff - very congenial & helpful
Hotel lobby and bar - wow! Really nicely done out and presented - bar is open all night, it actually had some of the best beer prices (which are extortionate) in Copenhagen, could quite happily stay in bar all night, really cozy and relaxing with attentive service
Room - what they term A class, very roomy, a junior suite effectively, with nice decor and furnishings
Breakfast - included in price, hearty self service continental / smorgersbord - filled up in morning and pretty much did us all day
Now for the negatives:
There were a few things, the little details, in the hotel which let it down somewhat, things like:
Like lots of scuff marks on walls and even on window blinds(?) in the room
The towels in bathroom are v. small and a bit coarse
Grout in bathroom needs sorting
There are 2 sinks in bathroom, but one has no water pressure (just trickles out) - but shower was hot and powerful
There were no robes, nor stationery or even an iron in the room - all pretty much standard hotel fair, particularly for this supposed classification (and you get it in other hotels of this standard / price range)
Probably this might all sound a bit picky and it didnt effect our stay really. Fair enough - however, the biggest single issue for me, was location.
The Avenue is located in a pretty run down suburb (Its actual postal address is Fredericksberg, which is very nice, but the hotel is closer to Norrebro which we didnt find as pleasant).
The hotel is a good 20+ minute walk into the centre - you could, to be fair, catch a tube, but this only took you to outskirts of centre and didnt really save you any time. As such, you found a good portion of your morning and evenings was spent getting too and from places - not a problem if you can justify spending a lot on taxis (we thought the fares were steep).
No doubt this review makes it sound like we didn't rate Copenhagen or the hotel.
This isn't true, we thought (overall) Copenhagen was great - but make sure you bring lots and lots of money. Likewise, the hotel, for £320 for 2 nights, was good value and we enjoyed our stay - I would just find something more central next time.
