“The quintessential African experience.”

If you are looking for a laid back place to rest and regroup while on a long journey, this cozy and quirky hotel will fit the bill with great food and a relaxed atmosphere. The small staff works hard to make your stay comfortable, even going out to get items the guest may have forgotten or something the hotel does not normally stock. The food is fantastic. The owner, Michelle, is a top rate chef who trained her staff well. They even offer specials on weekends, Tapas on Thursday evenings with live blues entertainment, and I think there is still a lunch special. They even offer vegan meals that are truly vegan and that is hard to find in Tanzania.
All in all, great food, pleasant, hardworking staff, and interesting décor in a safe easy going setting without a huge price tag. Yep, great food, great stay, and affordable!

Room Tip: Rooms in back may be more quiet while while the room off the porch is nice and spacious.

Wonderful, colonial, eclectic, no fake chrome and smoking mirrors. Food is wholesome, edible, as opposed to other places I could mention. Michelle the owner proprietor, mad as a box of frogs, but delightful and full of local knowledge. Love the place.

Room Tip: Ask for Uncle Tom

Certainly in need of a decent clean, if only to throw out the rusty furniture, buy by Morogoro standards there are many worse options. Our room as clean, the showers hot & excellent, and the food quite good. No credit cards are accepted, which seems as baffling as the stacks of boxes littering the bar/restaurant. Excellent breakfast, and made early for us by the owner.

I stayed here with a few friends last month. We were shown two rooms, one of which was dark and damp, the other, which we chose, was moderately better. The bed creaked and the quality of the mattress was rather poor.

The local staff was very nice. The pizzas at the restaurant were pretty good, and breakfast was copious and quite tasty.

The decor is a mishmash of random objects and the place is quite cluttered. Of all the places I stayed in Tanzania, it was the least well-kept. There was obvious dust accumulating in many places in addition to all the clutter.

This place was decent given the price for 3 people, but I would probably try somewhere else if I return.

Room Tip: The room in the back (straight ahead as you enter the courtyard) is quite dark and damp smelling.

This is a hotel I keep coming back to. This is not a hotel where you will find 'modern' chrome steel and glass fixtures that plague current Tanzanian hotels..what you will find is a hotel oozing with character, a warm welcome, brilliant enthusiastic staff, spacious rooms and did I mention the food? This is a place where food is the priority.
The menu is fairly extensive but I have to specially mention the rocket and feta...incredible. I think it's homemade, if I closed my eyes I could have been in Greece.
Michelle and her gang of animals are brilliant hosts and provide a great evenings entertainment even to solo travellers like myself.
I'm looking forward to returning already.

Room Tip: I usually end up staying in the same room (#1) so I'm not sure what the other rooms are like. Be...

Stayed here during a 4-day visit. Very interesting layout - good shade and plenty of places to sit inside and outside for informal meetings. Pleasant, personal, and professional staff. Lots of interesting clutter. Room was spacious and functional, not fancy.. Not everything worked, but it was OK if you consider the price and don't have Hilton-style expectations. Fridge wasn't too clean, sink had slow drain, A/C just blew in outside air so the room was pretty warm. Full breakfast is great and menu items for all meals have a broad selection, low prices, and very tasty. I recommend this for a stay here unless you have fancy tastes - then you probably shouldn't have come to Morogoro in the first place! Main con was the barking dogs. Seems a bunch of them make their home here.

Room Tip: Try to be in the courtyard - the main road can get pretty noisy. (But so can the dogs kept in the co...

We have stayed there twice and have found the food terrific, the rooms clean and water hot, the value excellent, the welcome great and the old-Africa ambiance exceptional. The place to stay in Morogoro.

Room Tip: reserve early, they only have a few rooms
