We stayed here during the gun competition held on August 25-27, 2012 in Ormoc City. There's no direct flight going to Ormoc City. We travelled from Cebu via Supercat (now 2go Travel) fast ferry at 5:45 am which arrived in Ormoc around 8:30 a.m. The hotel was a 5min walk from the pier. They accept early check in, so we got our room immediately. The beds were softer than what I prefer and they just offer 1 pillow each bed. The furniture and fixtures are old but nevertheless, tolerable. The bathroom is the oldest area. It's really not elegant or modern. The toilet bowl, bath tub and sink are all old. Redeeming factor is the good pressure of water. There's hot and cold, but you have to mix it well. When you have the seaview room, it can get a little bit noisy because of the highway/market/coliseum activities. Noise is not that bad for me though. It kept us company. The staff specially the housekeeping, are very attentive and helpful. They granted all our requests for extra pillows and whatnots. Since there are few hotels in the area, I would say this hotel is not that bad. I've seen Ormoc Villa Hotel, which is just another 5 min walk from Don Felipe, almost the same rate but more quiet and comfortable like a home.

I was slightly wary to book here based on reviews, but was pleasantly pleased. I got one of the newly renovated rooms on the 4th floor. The plus here is the shower. Hot water stays hot, no up and down. Water pressure is strong. Having stayed many places where this is not found, this was a very pleasant surprise. There is no plastic curtain; the shower is totally closed off now. The beds were comfortable, if not more comfortable than other places I have been. I am 6'3", and the ceilings were plenty tall. Room service was good.

Don Felipe is located right downtown, and ocean view rooms have nice views. There is no pool.

The real plus at this hotel is the restaurant service. Generally I like to try lots of different places, but stuck this time. In the Don Quijote restaurant is a waiter named Jun. He is excellent, and could teach servers all over the Philippines a thing or two. As an example, he checks up on tables regularly, but doesn't cut into conversations. He stands unobtrusively to the side ready to be motioned over with a look. Just, really good; he was able to manage 6 full tables with no issues, when I have seen some people give bad service with one or two tables in other places. The food ranged from okay to good.

There's no real reason to choose this hotel over another, there are some right on nicer beaches. The one that sets this one apart is the water in the shower and Jun. It's worth a stay.

I stayed at Don Felipe hotel for one night on a business trip since the other hotel where I usually stay at was fully booked. It was a bad call. The bed felt like it had a spinal column in the middle hitting my own spinal column when I lay down. Good thing I had a room with two beds so I stayed at the other bed which had no spinal column like thing in the middle of the bed. The carpet in the room was musky smell and the bathroom had a moldy smell. AC was barely felt and room felt dingy and aged.
The only good thing about this hotel is its location and if you can get a room with a view then you might actually enjoy staying at the room. The food is pretty good as well, specially their homemade buns served during breakfast.

All in all this hotel is cheap but not worth your buck:)

i stayed at Don Felipe Hotel for a` week when i was there late last year, then decided to try the ial lodge, staff at reception were good and most of the time they smiled, but the ceilings in the rooms
were very low, not really meant for westerners, the toilet and shower combined was small, and the plastic shower curtain did not stop the water from running into the toilet area, the shower curtain needs to be cleaned on a regular basis as the mildew had built up on them, the room service, well most of the time you had to ask them to clean the room and change the bedding, a bit disappointing, the room prices were average, but next trip in 2012 i think i will stay at Don Felipe, might be old looking, but the room service was good ..

The IA Lodge, which is not currently listed among Ormoc hotel choices, is MUCH better than the similarly priced rooms at Hotel Don Felipe. IA Lodge is across and about 50 yards down Bonafacio St from Hotel Don Felipe, both are a one minute walk from the Ormoc bus station. Most rooms are 750-1000 pesos at IA Lodge.

Hotel Don Felipe is a very large old hotel that is okay if u are getting their more expensive rooms. I had a low priced room at Don Felipe and everything was dated and worn. Surprisingly high ceiling in my cheap Hotel Don Felipe room had a big spider web that seemed to have been there for many years. I made sure the web is gone. Hotel Don Felipe's lobby is classy and massive. The hotel restaurant is overpriced and usually almost empty. This hotel seems to have intentionally neglected its budget priced rooms. Choose IA Lodge (across the street) and consider Beachtree Lodge in Ormoc also.
