“The Christmas Season at Hotel Alejandro”
Reviewed 6 January 2012

If there is is one place to stay in tacloban during Christmas season, definitely it must be Hotel Alejandro!
You will really feel teh spirit of Christmas from the hotel facade going to their lobby, and restaurant inside. There's a lot of stuff like giant Christmas tree, the nativity of Jesus Christ, sta Claus, mini Christmas Village and a lot more!

at 4am in the morning there are set up of Paskong Pinoy where the tinderas and tinderos are selling different "kakanins" like puto, suman, sapin sapin, bibingka and the famous puto-bungbong! and everyone is enjoying the food early in the morning.

Though the hotel rooms were quite old but clean and comfy. maybe a little renovation must be done. The staff were courteous and polite.
Going there must be planned you must booked ahead of time because the hotel is always occupied.

Located in residential neighbourhood with many cheap local eateries and internet & laundry services within walking distance. 10-15 min walk to shopping street (or take Jeepney). Free internet only available in lobby coffeeshop which has no AC. Deluxe room was spacious, but no in-room safe and window had frosted glass (so no view). Small pool on rooftop terrace with sea view. The hotel building has a long & interesting history and displays many war time pictures on most floors as well as in the original Alejandro family residence. During the long Filipino Christmas season, the whole house is massively decorated playing seasonal music all day long.

Room Tip: Top floor rooms may suffer from some evening noise during weekend rooftop functions.

I have stayed at Hotel Alejandro three or four times already (for work) as it is the most decent hotel in Tacloban City. I was just in the hotel last weekend and they have nicely decorated the old house with so many Christmas lights. It's really glowing amidst the houses in its neighborhood.

Room-wise, it's the usual basic room with amenities - my deluxe room had one full bed and a single bed, a small ref, a TV, and an aircon. The bathroom's water was not potable and the towels had seen better days. The halls are not airconditioned so it can get really stuff walking from the (cramped) elevator to your room.

Service was just average. Honestly, I found Taclobanons less friendly or hospitable than their Ilonggo or Cebuano counterparts.

Tacloban City itself is a sleepy place. The hotel has a good restaurant that serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Outside the hotel, we were only advised that there's only one other fine restaurant - Ocho Grill for seafood, where we had dinner twice and indeed it was just seafood paradise.

The hotel is generally well maintained. The staff is very pleasant and helpful. The hotel is situated centrally in Tacloban and it is easy to take transportation to local sites. The hot water takes at least 5 minutes to start running hot, so be patient when time to take a shower. WiFi in lobby only.

Well, I'm looking for safe travel and it's one of those hotels that do not have a working email address (if you can find one) or contact information. The booking page also gives an error when attempting to book a room. This is unsatisfactory for anyone that travels. How can we trust a company that doesn't take the time out to update their information. Impossible to contact, it seems they want you to take a trike to their hotel without a booking...

Room Tip: Find a hotel that has a verifiable website and easy to contact.

Very helpful staff. We just stayed here one night and enjoyed the stay very much. This is a hotel with a lot of history. We were staying on the fourth floor and the elevator only worked from the second floor up. Not a big deal and was corrected by the following morning.
