This is an older wooden hotel built like a Thai stilt house. Not impressive looking from the street but once inside the courtyard the hotel started to put on the charm. The hotel...not the staff. It took us ten minutes to find a living soul to get us checked in. Expecting guests is not on their priority list. But the town/hotel is at the end of 62K of extremely bad road and still 100K from Sapa. So any guests are a surprise. But the room was very large (#104), super clean, and the decor of wood and stone was charming. The mosquito screened bed was huge. However, I am convicted that the mattress was constructed out of teak wood! In our last month of traveling, I have never felt a harder bed. We persevered.
Breakfast, included, also took the staff by surprise. But once they got up to speed it was very good and got the day started.
I would recommend the hotel but there is almost nothing else to choose from anyway!
