“Another “Must See””

Try to go with a private guided tour as the lines can be long and daunting. It will be interesting to hear the guide`s stories as there is a lot of history around this place. You can buy the tour at the Nevsky prospect opposite Zinger house (approx. 1300 RUB including transportation, guide and entrance ticket to the palace). Catherine Palace is opulent and the Amber Room is absolutely stunning. Gardens are beautiful. Great place to spend a day.

“EXTRAVAGANT”
Reviewed 28 August 2014

This castle was completely rebuilt as is was before it was burned during WW II including a room entirely paneled in amber. It is breath-taking to see the gold decorations as well as the silk wallpaper and all the extravagant furnishings. The formal gardens were also worth seeing

“Stunning and Unique”
Reviewed 28 August 2014

Catherine palace is Russia's Versailles and it does share a common opulence and grandeur. The exterior is it's most attractive feature. The interior is much like most palaces of the era with lots of gold leaf and ornate carvings. The "Amber room" is its most popular and worth seeing. The best time to tour is early in the morning before the large crowds arrive around 10 am. After that, like all tourist attractions anywhere in the world, the crowds become a distraction. Outside the palace are lots of street vendors with lots of "tourist" gifts for sell. They readily take euros and are far less aggressive as those in other parts of Europe. My favorite part of our tour was lunch in the cafe in one of the outer buildings on the property.

Take the trip to the countryside to see this pretty palace. Very large and unique, and quite stunning to say the least.
