“There are highs.. and there are lows.. but the lows can be fixed..”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 April 2014

In general, this is a great resort. The outside gardens and pool area have been very well maintained, as is the complex itself with free undercover parking.

It is in a terrific location opposite the Alexandra Headland Surf Club where you can grab a quick bite from the kiosk including a really good coffee or a proper meal in the restaurant. There are quite a few fast food places around the resort but if you're not into fast food, you will need to go to Mooloolaba or Maroochydore. There are also quite a few closed down restaurants so I'm not sure what that's about, just looks untidy.

Oh, we did go to the Alex Bar and Grill on Fri night where I had the best chicken wings ever (with spicy plum sauce if you're interested) but I wouldn't recommend it for families as it was really noisy (could have been due to Anzac Day but the music was deafeningly loud).. too loud for this old dog..

The highs..
- Fantastic pool areas.. one of the best I've seen in ages.. a couple of slides for the kids and plenty of room for all ages to swim around without being on top of each other.. my 5 year old son told me it was the best pool everrrrrrr..
- Great BBQ area and terrific play area in the shape of a boat next to each other
- Good sized rooms and particularly the outdoor courtyard in Room 218. Would be great if you had a baby/toddler as they can crawl around and it is totally enclosed. It also has access to the pools down some steps.
- Has good kitchen and laundry facilities.. the laundry and dishwashing powders were a good touch

The lows
- The main bed was VERY uncomfortable. It really needs to be upgraded.
- The main cane lounge is very dated and uncomfortable. Needs to be tossed.
- The air-con outside the main bedroom was noisy

We only stayed 2 nights and I did let the front office staff know when we were leaving as we weren't in the rooms long enough. Obviously this room has not yet been upgraded. I strongly suggest you let the owner know, they are not doing you or themselves any favours by not upgrading.

We would look forward to returning when the rooms have been upgraded and would be able to get a decent nights sleep in a comfortable bed as the facilities and location are terrific.

Room Tip: Ask for an upgraded room.

Pretty good value for money. Well appointed apartments, very clean and it was handy to have laundry facilities. The beds were comfortable and the small balconies meant you could enjoy the views over the pool- or glimpses of the ocean, if you're on an outside apartment. I was up for work purposes and stayed on three occasions. Was lovely to have access to such great swimming pools and two heated spas. The beach is just across the road. The communal BBQs are well maintained and are well set up, although there are no BBQ tools so you have to make do with kitchen utensils. Downside was that a couple of the apartments had very noisy air con units just outside the bedroom window. There aren't any decent restaurants very close but Mooloolaba options are only 10 minutes brisk walk or a short drive to Maroochydore gives a wider range. Plenty of secure parking. My rating a 7 out of 10.

Room Tip: Overlooking the pool gives a nice view but a bit noisy with people and kids playing and swimming til...

Location, Location, Location. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Breakfree Alexandra. Our room had new furniture and curtains which were lovely and great quality. The kitchen and bathroom were not renovated but were clean and functional. We had excellent Ocean views which were just such a pleasure to wake up to each morning. The kids room had a pool view from their window. The beach is right across the road and is patrolled very well. There are shops all within walking distance and a lovely 15minute stroll to Mooloolaba strip. The lagoon pool is freezing!! But once you're in for a while it's ok! The kids loved the water slides and swimming under the bridges and around the lagoon. There are two smaller heated pools which are a perfect temperature and the spas are lovely. The grounds and pool are really well maintained and staff were friendly and ready to help. It is a shame that the restaurant and pool bar are not operational. Any entrepreneurs out there willing to give it a go?!! Would be a great draw card and asset to the resort.
We will be back!

Room Tip: We stayed in Bondi building....beach facing balcony. Very happy with this location. If you are conce...

We stayed for 3 nights and were lucky enough to get a room that you could walk off the balcony steps into the pool!! :) It really was lovely :) You just have to get over the fact that others swim passed your room and stare at you. Even that was worth how pretty the pool was :) There seemed to be 2 resident ducks that knew when we got to our room each time as they would fly in and land by our steps, and just hang out. It was cute. (we did feed them- I'm not sorry) :D The staff were lovely :) The pools were lovely. :) It was weird though, the toilet was so close to the other areas in the room, so there wasn't much privacy in that respect, but you can get over that. It is a lovely place :) Peaceful :) (except screaming children! But isn't that what they do, and it is a child friendly resort, so our fault). It is a great place for families :) If we need to stay in that area again, we will definately stay there :) Thank you to all for making it a lovely stay :)

The first thing I looked at before writing this review was of management apologies to those experiencing an unacceptable stay during their time here. Telling people that the hotel is undergoing refurbishment AFTER their stay is NOT an acceptable way of excusing the conditions people endure. If patrons were informed of refurbs BEFORE they accept the keycards to rooms then they can decide whether or not the want to stay or claim a refund and stay elsewhere. I can understand why this is not done (profit before honesty/choice)

I will start with the good things. The parking here is free and in many cases secure in an underground car park with automatically locking gates which activate only with room cards.

The hotel boasts a great pool, suitable for families and apparently lights up at night (although I did not see this).

I noticed the hallways in this hotel looked like a shower room scene, large brown tiles on the floor and dull walls. This wasn't of much bother but it can get noisy when housekeeping and guests moved wheeled items along the corridors.

I stayed in room 212... it is near a refuse chute but no smell exuded from it and the room itself is tucked out of the way from busy activity and near the lifts... it also faces the pool so location is great.

The room amenities are incredible, with a huge fridge/freezer to store your stuff, a nice two ring electric stove to cook, a corner sink and serving shelf. You even get a washing machine and dryer, however I did not use these as the stitching caught in the screw inside the dryer door suggests it's hazardous to clothing. The appearance of the room was GENERALLY clean (keep reading). The lounge and bedroom TV are large.

The balcony was pleasant enough as it looked straight out onto the pool. The bathroom was mostly clean with a large shower/tub combo (don't be fooled though, the tub is NOT a spa despite its appearance)

Now for the problems I encountered. Firstly, although reception staff dealt with me in a friendly and professional way, they did display a distinct look of disinterest and being overworked when not dealing with customers. I wasn't told about the need to keep your room card in the socket behind the room door, so I had to call reception to ask why the air con and lights kept switching off.

The utensils and cookware looked dated and in some cases were not cleaned properly. One of the things I didn't understand were the pull-across bedroom doors. I assume they are to give a wider space feel between bedroom and lounge but they were hard to pull across and simply came out of their runners.

The lounge sofa was okay but had a used smell and didn't feel good to touch. The bathroom had a strange layout... I could not find the toilet until I closed the bathroom door, it is hidden in the corner. You could see the boiler in the closet even when the closet door was closed due to a gap between the door and the wall. The worst thing about the bathroom was the air vent, it was FILTHY. The system blows that into the room, there is NO excuse for not cleaning something of such importance. The hinges in the kitchen cabinets were horribly black, greasy and rusty, even displaying thick grey dust.

There were two other unacceptable things in the bedroom. While the bed was nice and comfortable to a degree, it was a low bed and you could smell the floor, it was not a very pleasant one. How much does it cost to, now and again, clean the floor with a detergent?

Finally, the worst sight I could see, was the in-room safe. While it had a feature of being room card operated, the sight inside was unbelievable. The dust in there was so thick it looked like - sorry to say this - shaved pubic hair.

I know I should've taken pictures of these issues to show you as you have to see it to believe it... but trust me, they aren't something you want to see. I can understand dust build-ups behind and under furniture but I saw specimens in obvious, easy-to-see areas and that is unforgivable.

I was fortunate to spend most of my time outside this room and most telling is that when I read out the scroll of issues to the receptionist, she didn't look surprised at all! Room service is weekly, but in my room it seemed like it was 11 months into an annual event.

I do note that other recent reviews are positive, I'm guessing that maybe some rooms have been worked on but it maybe is a case of pot luck which room you get!

Room Tip: I wouldn't stay here again. Ask reception if any rooms have been recently refurbished. If none a...

Hi Eddie C,

Thank you for taking the time to provide this valuable feedback.

We are pleased to hear your comments about our lagoon pool & facilities; however it is a little disappointing that the resort room and some members of staff may have fallen short of your expectations.
I have relayed your comments to our Executive Housekeeper regarding the cleaning and odour issues that you encountered & we are now in the process of further training to ensure this does not occur again.
We are also looking at our front office rosters & customer service to ensure all information is relayed to guests on arrival & our staff remains engaged & enthusiastic.

We do apologise for the issues that you experienced, and hope that you will allow us to demonstrate the true Spirit of Mantra Resorts Hospitality when you next decide to holiday.
Regards
Nicole Elmore

Loved it, the room has everything you need for an extended stay and was clean and comfortable. I didn't get a room with a great view but i was still very happy! The door hiding the washer/dryer needs to be fixed, they could include a suitcase stand as there was room for it and the step into and out of the shower is way too high but apart from those small things I was very happy and will definitely stay again when they have great deals on. Front desk was friendly. The pool is amazing and i had a swim every day, also used the spa and they even have rooms that have pool access outside their door. The beach is directly across the road and lots of shops and take away/restaurants nearby. I got a great deal on my room. The room had a microwave, clothes washer/dryer, small stove, fridge and eating utensils/plates etc. I was staying alone but have relatives 5minutes away. Secure parking too.

Room Tip: Pay abit more if you want pool access outside your door!
