We'd never been skiing before and so picked this resort (Kirchdorf) and hotel (Neuwirt) because it's prime for beginners and doesn't carry the baggage of higher profile and more expensive resorts.
The skiing is great - beginners do well on the Kirchdorf slopes and with St Johann and Shteinplatte close by, the more advanced skier can find some piste (or otherwise) to entertain themselves!
The hotel is fantastic. It is warm (a must considering the weather we had) and staffed with really friendly and helpful people - our frankly unnacceptable ignorance of Austrian didn't hold us back one bit. The rooms are large and our balcony (I think all rooms have them) overlooked the snowy fields and out to the surrounding alps - a truly wonderful sight.
The food is mega. Such care and attention is not usually afforded to half board fare and whilst there isn't a rampant amount of choice, everything is homely and really well presented. The salad buffet is great - fresh and a great accompaniament to the wonderful Austrian food on offer.
The theme nights are (whilst seemingly perfectly normal for our European counterparts) a bit odd for our tastes but once white beer was consumed it all seemed to make sense.
A really friendly and comforting stay for our first skiing experience. - please don't be put off by the Neuwirt's lack of inclusion in the Crystal Ski brochure should you not find it in there. This inexplicable oversight must hopefully be addressed soon.
Only slight downside (for some) is that it is a fair walk (20 mins) from the nursery slopes. We liked that though, it helps to loosen the limbs after a hard day of tumbling on the snow!
